Life and Letters of Ferdinand von Mueller

Of German origin Ferdinand von Mueller migrated to Australia in 1847. Government Botanist of Victoria for 43 years until his death in 1896, he was Australia's greatest scientist of the 19th century – a major contributor to international science, an intrepid explorer of parts of Australia previously unknown to Europeans, and a dominant figure in the scientific and intellectual life of his adopted country. Throughout his working life, Mueller kept up an enormous correspondence. Large numbers of letters by or to him have been located, scattered throughout the world, and edited for publication. These constitute a major new research tool for both Australian historians and historians of science. They are also of fundamental importance to Australian taxonomic botany, for Mueller introduced vast numbers of Australian plants to western science. DaZ und DaF in der Diskussion

DaZ und DaF werden in der Fachwissenschaft und -didaktik intensiv diskutiert. In der Reihe erscheinen Monografien und Sammelbände aus allen Bereichen des Deutschen als Zweit- und als Fremdsprache. Besondere Schwerpunkte bilden hierbei pädagogische, didaktische und methodische Konzepte, Aspekte der inter- und der transkulturellen Kommunikation sowie kontrastive Ansätze im Kontext Deutsch als Zweit- und Fremdsprache. Unter Berücksichtigung der gesellschaftlichen Diversität und Mehrsprachigkeit thematisieren die einzelnen Bände unterschiedliche theoretische Überlegungen, empirische Untersuchungsergebnisse und praktische Umsetzungen aus den Bereichen DaZ und DaF. Manuskriptvorschläge sind willkommen. Manuskripte werden von allen drei Herausgeber:innen geprüft, und ggf. werden externe Gutachter:innen hinzugezogen. Bis Band 11 wurde die Reihe von Martin Löschmann herausgegeben und erschien unter dem Titel Deutsch als Fremdsprache in der Diskussion ISSN bis Bd. 11: 0942-4830 ISSN ab Bd. 12: 2629-4907 – eSSN ab Bd. 12: 2629-4915

Scottish Studies International

The Scottish Studies International (SSI) series produced by the Faculty of Translation Studies, Linguistics and Cultural Studies of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz in Germersheim, Germany, publishes high-quality research work from across the broad and varied spectrum of Scottish Studies. Founded in 1982 by the late Professor Horst W. Drescher, the series originally focused on literature and translation studies. Current editor, Professor Klaus Peter Müller, has since extended its scope into the fields of cultural and media studies, a widening of range and perspective that is also reflected in the faculty's bi-annual Scottish Studies Newsletter. The series aims to explore both Scotland's turbulent past and its intriguing present flux in its culture, society, politics, economy, media, art, and literature. In order to evaluate their suitability for publication, all texts submitted will be peer-reviewed by the general editor as well as by members of the editorial board. Europäische Kinder- und Jugendliteratur im interkulturellen Kontext

This series includes Ph.D. dissertations, monographs, anthologies and conference proceedings on literature for children and young adults dealing with cultural diversity in Europe. It aims to be a scientific platform for discussions about literature for children and young adults as an international and supra-national medium of cultural transfer and wants to contribute to the current discourse on the consequences and perspectives of migration. This series intends to offer a discussion forum to experienced specialists as well as to young researchers. A large spectrum of theoretical approaches is welcome within the framework of this series: comparative studies as well as publications on the history of ideas, critiques of contemporary civilisation, socio-psychological perspectives, literary theory and translation studies. English, German and French are accepted as languages of publication.
