Gender and Sexualities in Education

Part of the Peter Lang Diversity series, the Gender and Sexualities in Education series seeks to publish high quality manuscripts that address the complex interrelationship between gender and sexuality in shaping young people’s schooling experiences, their participation in popular youth cultures, and their sense of self in relation to others. Books published might include: a study of hip-hop youth culture, Latina/o students, white working class youth, or LGBTQQ community groups –– in each case asking how they explore, challenge, and perform gender and sexualities as part of learning and «“becoming somebody».” Other books might address issues of masculinities, gender and embodiment, trans and genderqueer youth, sexuality education, or the construction of heteronormativity in schools. We invite contributions from authors of ethnographic and other qualitative studies, theoretical texts, as well as critical analyses of popular culture “«texts”» targeted at or produced by youth – including an analysis of popular music and fan culture, video and film, and gaming culture. While the focus of the series is on original research or theoretical monographs, exceptionally well-crafted proposals for thematically coherent edited volumes and textbooks will also be considered. This series of art historical studies concentrates on the periods from the Renaissance to Modernism. Topics classified under Contemporary Artwill only be included only in exceptional cases. Papers on Art are primarily aiming at the monographic investigation of sculpture, painting, graphic art, and arts and crafts, comprehensive studies will be incorporated on a case-by-case basis. The term monographic is used broadly, comprising monographs dealing with the œuvre of one artist, treatises considering partial aspects, as well as studies of a particular work. Diese Reihe kunsthistorischer Studien ist zwischen Renaissance und Moderne angesiedelt, die Kunst der Gegenwart sollte indes nur ausnahmsweise berücksichtigt werden. Primär steht diese Reihe für monographische Untersuchungen zu den Themenbereichen der Bildenden Künste (also Skulptur, Malerei, Graphik, Kunsthandwerk) offen, im Einzelfall können auch übergreifende Darstellungen aufgenommen werden. Zudem wird der Begriff monographisch bewusst weit gefasst: So kann es sich sowohl um Studien zum Gesamtœuvre eines Künstlers als auch zu Teilaspekten desselben handeln, desgleichen um Monographien zum einzelnen Werk.

Raffael und seine Zeit / Raphael and His Time

The new series RAPHAEL AND HIS TIME is focussed on single works or oeuvres in the visual arts realized by Raphael and his workshop. Moreover, works of art by contemporaries can be discussed too. The papers are aiming at the monographic investigation of painting, drawing, and printing basing on the variety of the methodological analysis. Particular stress will be laid on technological analysis, which will be published too. Die Schriftenreihe RAFFAEL UND SEINE ZEIT dient der Veröffentlichung von Untersuchungen zu Einzel- und Gesamtwerken von Raffael und von Künstlern seiner unmittelbaren Nachfolge. Zudem sollen auch Werke anderer Künstler dieser Zeit herangezogen werden können. Die Beiträge betreffen sowohl Arbeiten der Malerei, der Zeichnung sowie der Druckgraphik. Diese neue Reihe ist einer Methodenvielfalt verpflichtet, wobei ein besonderer Akzent auf technologische Analysen gelegt wird. A Critical Introduction to Media and Communication Theory

The study of the media has led scholars to apply a humbling array of theories in their efforts to analyze messages, media systems, audiences and media themselves. One of the strengths of media studies has been its flexibility as it incorporates humanist and social scientific ideas in our work. This series is focused on theories, methods, schools of thought, domains of intellectual struggle, and individual thinkers whose importance to the study of the media can be reconfigured, reinvented, and refocused. Each of the specially commissioned books in the series shares a concern for the heritage of thought in the field of communication. These books provide sophisticated discussions of the relevance of particular theorists or theories, with an emphasis on reinventing communication and media studies, whether by incorporating ideas thought by some to be 'outside' the field, or by providing fresh analyses of ideas that have long been considered central to media studies. "This series encourages works of scholarship that explore the artistic and theological depths of biblical symbols. "Symbol" here means any well-known reality that is used to illuminate a more mysterious reality by means of the analogy between the two. The symbols can be objects, qualities, actions, roles, events, stories, or systems. "Exploring" symbols entails: painting a full picture of the well-known reality as the original writers and readers would have known it; establishing what the subject of the symbol was in particular instances; and seeing through the symbol to the depths of the subject. The books in this series may focus on a particular symbol (e.g. light, or shepherd, or the Exodus), on a particular type of symbolism (e.g. Paul's legal symbolism, or Flosea's personal symbolism), or on particular themes (e.g. the variety of symbols used to illuminate the mystery of human sinfulness and how those symbols are used to interpret each other). Ecological Pedagogy, Curriculum and Scholarship

This book series is premised on the ecological understanding that all of education– all of the living fields of knowledge entrusted to teachers and students in schools, all of the gestures of teaching and learning itself – is full of relations, interdependencies, ancestries, places, voices animated by lived and learned experiences. Ecological pedagogy, curriculum and scholarship understands that all living fields of knowledge must be taught and learned as such, with all of their intrinsic and animate rigours, complexities, interrelatedness, and earthly responsibilities. In these ecologically sorrowful times, our individual and collective impulse to raise voices of commiseration and encouragement to those working inside and outside of schools bristles with urgency. And this just at a time when the world also seems to be churning with increasing distractions and fakeries whose beneficiaries are not of this earth. Schools and schooling are caught up in ongoing yet ever-shifting inheritances of place and displacement, privilege, colonialism, gender and so on. They are also subject to legacies of indiscriminate standardization, efficiency, fragmentation and all of the ramped-up, exhausting and exhausted distractions of our current age. Education often drags along with its tenacious legacies of thinking and practice that are mostly silent, often silencing, simply taken for granted as just the way things are. Schooling itself, in so many quarters, has become an ecological disaster. Many teachers have studied and voiced these matters, while pursuing more venturous, ecologically sound work in their classroom, all this in deliberate resistance to the marginalization of such work. The series invites scholarly, enlivening and healing ways of researching and writing that attempt to live up to the ecologies of the topics themselves, each in their own ways and languages, each laden with their own ancestries, troubles, and insights – eco-hermeneutics, interpretive research, poetic inquiry, autobiographical and life writing, currere, Indigenous research, arts-based inquiry, storytelling and emergent ways and means of knowing. None of these are merely methodologies. Each involves myriad encounters, myriad relationships, myriad possibilities. In trying to find the measure of what is written within the things written about, these ways are in themselves ecological and pedagogical. They are locales where our relations are worked out, our songs are sung, our silences are shared, and our individual and collective stories are lived, contested, shaped and re-told. The logo for this book series is a Celtic Knot drawn by Eric Jardine in 1992. It became the cover illustration of a self-published book that year. It is a reminder of how long-standing is this current stream of work in education, stretching far back from there. These stretches are part of the ecological imagination itself. British and Irish Studies in German Language and Literature Edited by H. S. Reiss and W. E. Yates This long-established series aims to publish works of serious scholarship drawn from the whole subject range of traditional Germanistik, originating both in Great Britain and in the Republic of Ireland, and readably written. Over fifty volumes have b een published since 1974. They include new books both by distinguished senior scholars and by younger researchers, collected essays either by single authors or by several hands (these have included papers emerging from conferences, often in both Eng lish and German) and selected doctoral dissertations reworked in book form. The weight of the series has mainly fallen on literature, theatre and cultural history from the eighteenth century onwards, in some cases with a strong comparative dimension.

Do ponto de vista dos estudos culturais, com foco especial em literatura e mídia, a série apresenta as principais questões e paradigmas dos estudos luso-brasileiros no circuito internacional. Ela também aborda fenômenos significativos das culturas lusófonas que têm recebido pouca atenção até o momento, especialmente a complexa dinâmica e os múltiplos entrelaçamentos das formas de expressão cultural surgidas a partir de intercâmbios transregionais e globais. Neste contexto as dimensões midiáticas das produções culturais são examinadas em suas respectivas configurações, considerando referências intertextuais, bem como contextos sociais, políticos e históricos. Levando em conta a crescente internacionalização dos estudos luso-brasileiros, a série abrange publicações em português, alemão e inglês. Aus kulturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive, unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Literatur- und Medienwissenschaften, präsentiert die Schriftenreihe aktuelle Entwicklungen und Paradigmen der internationalen Lusitanistik. Sie erschließt auch signifikante Phänomene der portugiesischsprachigen Kulturen, die bislang wenig Beachtung finden, mit einem besonderen Augenmerk auf den komplexen Dynamiken und vielfältigen Verflechtungen kultureller Ausdruckformen, die aus transregionalen und globalen Austauschprozessen hervorgegangen sind bzw. durch diese entstehen. In diesem Zusammenhang werden die medialen Dimensionen kultureller Produktionen in ihren jeweiligen Konfigurationen untersucht, unter Berücksichtigung intertextueller Bezüge sowie sozialer, politischer und historischer Kontexte. Der Internationalität der Lusitanistik entsprechend, erscheinen in der Schriftenreihe Bücher auf Portugiesisch, Deutsch und Englisch.
