This series explores the history of schools and schooling in the United States and other countries. The series will examine the historical development of schools and educational processes, with special emphasis on issues of educational policy, curriculum and pedagogy, as well as issues relating to race, class, gender, and ethnicity. Human Right Studies

The legal and political significance of human rights has increased enormously at the international and European levels. It has become increasingly clear that the respect and promotion of human rights must be at the centre of States and local communities' public policies and that human rights are the basis of civil society initiatives and movements. There is a large mechanism, at all levels of governance, monitoring the way in which States implement the obligations they have assumed towards each person under their sovereignty. The Italian Yearbook of Human Rights Series provides year by year, a dynamic and up-to date overview of the measures Italy has taken to adapt its legislation and policies in line with international human rights law and to comply with the commitments voluntarily assumed by the Italian Government at the international level. The book series thus intends to contribute to the continuous monitoring activity of the human rights situation in Italy undertaken at the local, national and international levels by the relevant intergovernmental and civil society actors. Each volume of this series surveys the activities carried out, during the year of reference, by the relevant national and local Italian actors, including governmental bodies, civil society organisations and universities. It also presents reports and recommendations that have been addressed to Italy by international monitoring bodies within the framework of the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the European Union. Finally, each Yearbook provides a selection of examples from international and national case law that cast light on Italy’s position vis-à-vis internationally recognised human rights. The Yearbook is edited by the Human Rights Centre of the University of Padua, in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair in Human Rights, Democracy and Peace of the same university, and with the support of the Region of Veneto. The Centre, established in 1982, carries out research and education following a global and interdisciplinary approach. It hosts the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on intercultural dialogue, human rights and multi-level governance.

The series aims to publish innovative research on the written, material and visual cultures and intellectual history of modern Italy, from the 19th century to the present day. It is open to a wide variety of different approaches and methodologies, disciplines and interdisciplinary fields: from literary criticism and comparative literature to archival history, from cultural studies to material culture, from film and media studies to art history. It is especially interested in work which articulates aspects of Italy's particular, and in many respects, peculiar, interactions with notions of modernity and postmodernity, broadly understood. It also aims to encourage critical dialogue between new developments in scholarship in Italy and in the English-speaking world. The Italian Modernities series also includes the Panoramas sub-series. Authors representing various backgrounds and standpoints are encouraged in order to engage in the political philosophy; theoretical and mathematical analyses on politics; cyber society; environments; economics; civil, constitutional, and international law (e.g. legal transplants); human rights; social psychology; and sociology. The series used to collect the best global achievements and standards. Accordingly, the series has been provided in Spanish, Japanese, [Modern] Greek, German, French, and English but all double-peer-reviewed and accepted manuscripts should contain an English translation of its detailed contents and a résumé written in English. The series, directed by Claudio Gigante and Dirk Vanden Berghe, contains texts and essays on Italian literature of the nineteenth century, understood here in its widest chronological extension, from the first Napoleonic campaign until the end of the first World War; which represents as well the period in which the Risorgimento was fulfilled. The extent of the social and cultural changes that took place in the course of the nineteenth century was such as to influence the whole «Short Century» that would have immediately followed. For this reason, the Italian literary production of such a crucial phase in modern history deserves to be the subject of a specific series of studies, open to different methodological approaches but with a focus on research carried out directly on the texts. Contributions are welcome in Italian and in major European languages. All the volumes in the series «Il secolo lungo» are subject to a double blind peer review. La collana, diretta da Claudio Gigante e Dirk Vanden Berghe, ospita testi e saggi dedicati alla letteratura italiana del secolo XIX, inteso qui nella sua massima estensione cronologica, dalla prima campagna napoleonica alla fine della Grande Guerra: che rappresenta anche il periodo in cui si compì la parabola del Risorgimento. L'entità dei mutamenti sociali e culturali avveratisi nel corso dell'Ottocento fu tale da condizionare l'intero «secolo breve» che gli avrebbe immediatamente fatto seguito. Anche per questo, la produzione letteraria italiana di una fase così cruciale della storia moderna merita di essere l'oggetto di una collana di studi specifica, aperta ad approcci metodologici diversi ma con un'attenzione particolare alle ricerche eseguite direttamente sui testi. Verranno accolti contributi in italiano e nelle principali lingue europee. Ogni volume della collana «Il secolo lungo» è stato sottoposto a una doppia revisione paritaria anonima. La collection, dirigée par Claudio Gigante et Dirk Vanden Berghe, rassemble textes et études consacrés à la littérature italienne du XIXe siècle, période considérée ici dans sa plus ample extension chronologique, de la première campagne napoléonienne en Italie à la fin de la Grande Guerre ; ce qui en réalité coïncide avec l’ère du Risorgimento. Les profonds changements sociaux et culturels qui se sont produits au cours du XIXe siècle ont fortement influencé le « court XXe siècle ». Komplexe Systeme und Ökonomie

Entwicklungen in der Wirtschaft sind häufig durch Diskontinuitäten, Sprünge und Turbulenzen gekennzeichnet. Wirtschaft und auf Wirtschaft bezogene Teilbereiche können somit als nicht-lineare, dynamische bzw. komplexe Systeme aufgefasst werden. Um diese nicht-linearen Erscheinungen zu modellieren und zu erklären, muss nach neuen Verfahren auf dem Gebiet komplexer dynamischer Systeme geforscht werden. Ein viel versprechender Ansatz ist die Theorie Komplexer Systeme, die im Wesentlichen die Chaos- und Katastrophentheorie, aber auch die Synergetik umfasst. Die Reihe will neue Forschungsfelder im Rahmen der Wirtschaftswissenschaft und ihrer Didaktik darlegen. Sie will die Möglichkeiten der Theorie Komplexer Systeme an Beispielen diskutieren, kritisch analysieren und weiterentwickeln. Dabei können sowohl die inhaltliche, die methodische sowie die mediale Perspektive als auch die Zielebene („ökonomische Bildung“) kritisch und konstruktiv thematisiert werden. Following the 1977 Tenerife air disaster (that killed 583 people), a traumatised and vilified aviation industry resolved to improve its safety performance. The adoption of a systems-thinking approach to risk analysis and mitigation, expressed in innovations such as the teamworking protocol crew resource management, has benefited the industry. In 2010 the industry achieved a world accident rate for scheduled flights of 4·0 accidents per million departures. This rate reflects a total of 121 accidents out of 30,556,513 scheduled flights. You are much, much safer in a pressurised aluminium tube cruising at eighty per cent the speed of sound six miles above terra firma than you are driving up the M1 on a sunny day in a modern, gas-bag equipped automobile, fully alert and not under the influence. The series is aimed at practitioners as well as academics and students. To this end, it is written in an accessible style with jargon explained. This reflects its purpose: to leverage change.
