The series of books entitled Veröffentlichungen des Instituts für deutsches und europäisches Wirtschafts-, Wettbewerbs- und Regulierungsrecht der Freien Universität Berlin, published by the Institute for Energy and Regulatory Law in Berlin, presents studies carried out within the Department of Law. The editor Professor Franz Jürgen Säcker has hereby established a platform for the publication of monographs and anthologies in collaboration with the Free University of Berlin. From volume 48 this series will be continued as Veröffentlichungen des Instituts für Energie- und Regulierungsrecht Berlin . This series explores the history of schools and schooling in the United States and other countries. The series will examine the historical development of schools and educational processes, with special emphasis on issues of educational policy, curriculum and pedagogy, as well as issues relating to race, class, gender, and ethnicity. Special emphasis will be placed on the lessons to be learned from the past for contemporary educational reform and policy. Although the series will publish books related to education in the broadest societal and cultural context, it especially seeks books on the history of specific schools and on the lives of educational leaders and school founders. Sympaian - Jahrbuch der Internationalen Franz Werfel-Gesellschaft

Im Jahre 1995 gedachte man Franz Werfels 50. Todestag. Zu diesem Anlaß wurde die Internationale Franz Werfel-Gesellschaft (IFWG) mit Sitz in Wien gegründet. Die Gründung fand während des Symposiums "Musikalität bei Franz Werfel" am 21. Februar 1995 in Szeged im grünen Salon des Kaffees VIRÁG statt. Die IFWG setzt sich zum Ziel, das Verständnis der Werke Franz Werfels zu fördern und die geistige Hinterlassenschaft des Schriftstellers zu pflegen. Sie möchte insbesondere durch einen Gedankenaustausch der Forscher, Kenner und Freunde des Dichters in aller Welt sein Andenken bewahren, sein geistiges Vermächtnis ehren und dazu beitragen, seine hinterlassenen Werke zu veröffentlichen. Aus dieser Zielsetzung erwachsen der Gesellschaft eine Reihe spezifischer Aufgaben, unter anderem die Herausgabe des Jahrbuchs Sympaian. Neben einem Schwerpunktthema - im ersten Jahrbuch geht es um Musikalität bei Franz Werfel - berichtet das Jahrbuch über Dissertationen und Diplomarbeiten und verfügt über einen ausführlichen Rezensionsteil.

A Critical Introduction to Media and Communication Theory

The study of the media has led scholars to apply a humbling array of theories in their efforts to analyze messages, media systems, audiences and media themselves. One of the strengths of media studies has been its flexibility as it incorporates humanist and social scientific ideas in our work. This series is focused on theories, methods, schools of thought, domains of intellectual struggle, and individual thinkers whose importance to the study of the media can be reconfigured, reinvented, and refocused. Each of the specially commissioned books in the series shares a concern for the heritage of thought in the field of communication. These books provide sophisticated discussions of the relevance of particular theorists or theories, with an emphasis on reinventing communication and media studies, whether by incorporating ideas thought by some to be 'outside' the field, or by providing fresh analyses of ideas that have long been considered　central to media studies. This new series is a forum for the investigation and analysis of the contested terrain between culture, gender, and sexuality. Titles in the series can include, but are not limited to, (re)theorizations of gender in relation to, or its constitution through, sexuality, race, dass, or culture, studies of sexuality and sexual identity that produce new understandings of gender, or new inquiries into culture, broadly defined, that raise competting implications for the ways in which we think about gender and sexuality in the contemporary social world. Of particular interest are manuscripts that cirtique and/or broaden traditional constructions of gender and take into account sexuality, race, dass, or the pressures of other constitutive categories, analyze nonwestern literary and cultural representations of gender and their relationship to sexuality, especially in postcolonial contexts, and theorize transgender from feminist, queer, postcolonial, or cultural studies frameworks. The Westminster College Library of Biblical Symbolism

"This series encourages works of scholarship that explore the artistic and theological depths of biblical symbols. "Symbol" here means any well-known reality that is used to illuminate a more mysterious reality by means of the analogy between the two. The symbols can be objects, qualities, actions, roles, events, stories, or systems. "Exploring" symbols entails: painting a full picture of the well-known reality as the original writers and readers would have known it; establishing what the subject of the symbol was in particular instances; and seeing through the symbol to the depths of the subject. Still others may focus on particular books, such as Ezekiel or Revelation, exploring their main symbols. "
