Studies in Philosophy, History of Ideas and Modern Societies

Until the publication of volume 21 the title of the series was "Polish Contemporary Philosophy and Philosophical Humanities". The series aspires to present a wide and relevant overview of best Polish works in philosophy and philosophical parts of the major fields of the humanities: political and social sciences, history, religious studies or what is named in Poland "the history of ideas". The subsequent editions of books within this series are either re-editions of the works previously published in non-Polish versions, or new translations from Polish. Some books contain extended works, other ones provide collections of smaller papers. Some of the authors presented in the series are widely acknowledged and regarded to be the "classics" of Polish intellectual life in the second half of the 20th Century, others are recognized as outstanding professors today. The quality and fame of the works and authors presented in the series are the only criteria for inclusion. The series is open to all streams of Polish philosophy: from analytical philosophy, through phenomenology and hermeneutics, to existential or religious philosophies. Also the word "philosophy" should be understood very widely in this case.

Elle accueille des ouvrages de recherche en histoire qui s’inscrivent dans l’un ou plusieurs des trois champs privilégiés du CREHS　: l’histoire de l’éducation, c’est-à-dire celle des institutions scolaires et universitaires, des élèves et des professionnels de l’enseignement　en Europe　; l’histoire des identités religieuses de l’Antiquité à nos jours en Europe　; l’histoire des patrimoines, des territoires matériels et immatériels qui les accueillent et de l’économie qui les fait vivre. La collection est ouverte à tout auteur, qu’il soit membre du CREHS ou non, sous réserve qu’il satisfasse à la ligne éditoriale. Les ouvrages publiés au sein de la collection peuvent être des monographies, des ouvrages collectifs ou des éditions scientifiques de documents. Ils s’adressent aux chercheurs, aux enseignants, aux étudiants et, plus largement, à tous les publics amateurs d’histoire intéressés par le passé de nos sociétés.

«Comparatism and Society» is an interdisciplinary collection which considers literature, the arts and the humanities in a close interaction with the evolution of society and the history of ideas. Although open to a wide range of methodologies, it nevertheless favours the perspective of cross-analysis, convinced that the objective of all research should be to reach beyond the limits of linguistic, national and disciplinary borders. The series «Work & Society» analyses the development of employment and social policies, as well as the strategies of the different social actors, both at national and European levels. It puts forward a multi-disciplinary approach – political, sociological, economic, legal and historical – in a bid for dialogue and complementarity. The series is not confined to the social field stricto sensu, but also aims to illustrate the indirect social impacts of economic and monetary policies. It endeavours to clarify social developments, from a comparative and a historical perspective, thus portraying the process of convergence and divergence in the diverse national societal contexts. The manner in which European integration impacts on employment and social policies constitutes the backbone of the analyses. La collection « Travail & Société » analyse les évolutions de la sphère du travail et des politiques sociales à travers l’étude des stratégies menées par les acteurs sociaux, tant sur le plan national qu’européen. Elle propose une approche pluridisciplinaire – politique, sociologique, économique, juridique et historique – dans un souci de dialogue et de complémentarité. La collection ne se limite pas à des études du champ social stricto sensu mais vise également à illustrer les impacts sociaux indirects des politiques économiques et monétaires. Elle s’attache à mettre en perspective les évolutions sociales, tant du point de vue historique que de manière comparative, en illustrant la convergence et la divergence dans les différents parcours nationaux. This series welcomes and encourages the dialogue between demography and family studies to revitalize social history as well as sociology and population studies. An international network of scholars based at the Laboratory of Demography and Family Studies of the University of Geneva has initiated an open-minded series that seeks to reflect the latest developments in research. The collection emphasizes comparative and international perspectives, as well as interdisciplinary approaches drawing from history, economics, statistics, sociology, geography, demography, and cultural anthropology. Innovative methodologies for both qualitative and quantitative analysis which allow authors to reformulate old problems and ask new questions are particular welcome. The series publishes both individual and collective volumes. The first group encompasses case studies or monographs coming from the Swiss or the international scientific world, including the best Ph.D. dissertations. The second group refers to collective volumes organized around a topic emerging from a scientific debate, with contributions from various disciplinary fields and/or geographic horizons. Cette collection a pour ambition d’accueillir et de promouvoir le dialogue entre les démographes et les spécialistes de la famille, dialogue qui renouvelle profondément tant l’histoire sociale que la sociologie contemporaine. Animée par un réseau international qui s’appuie sur le Laboratoire de Démographie et d’Etudes Familiales de l’Université de Genève, la collection est largement ouverte et veut refléter les dynamiques de recherche les plus récentes. Elle privilégie les perspectives comparatives, internationales, ainsi que les approches interdisciplinaires, celles qui mêlent les apports de l’histoire, de l’économie, de la statistique, de la sociologie, de la géographie, de la démographie, de l’anthropologie culturelle, etc. L’innovation méthodologique, dans les domaines du qualitatif aussi bien que du quantitatif, qui permet de refonder les problématiques et d’articuler de nouvelles questions, est particulièrement saluée. La collection accueille aussi bien des contributions individuelles que collectives. Dans le premier groupe se rangent les monographies ou travaux de synthèse issus du milieu scientifique suisse et international, en ce compris les meilleures thèses de doctorat. Le second groupe réunit des recueils d’articles organisés autour d’un thème qui émerge dans le débat scientifique, et qui requiert le croisement de regards venus de multiples horizons disciplinaires et/ou géographiques.

Sie verknüpft die Betrachtung von sozialen Prozessen, Institutionen und historischem Wandel mit gesellschaftstheoretischen Überlegungen. Obwohl im Schwerpunkt historisch ausgerichtet, stellt sie konzeptionell Bezüge zu Philosophie und Politikwissenschaft her. The Modern Poetry series brings together scholarly work on modern and contemporary poetry. As well as examining the sometimes neglected art of recent poetry, this series also sets modern poetry in the context of poetic history and in the context of other literary and artistic disciplines. Poetry has traditionally been considered the highest of the arts, but in our own time the scholarly tendency to treat literature as discourse or document sometimes threatens to obscure its specific vitalities. The Modern Poetry series aims to provide a platform for the full range of scholarly work on modern poetry, including work with an intercultural or interdisciplinary methodology. We invite submissions on all aspects of modern and contemporary poetry in English, and will also consider work on poetry in other language traditions. The series is non-dogmatic in its approach, and includes both mainstream and marginal topics. We are especially interested in work which brings new intellectual impetus to recognised areas (such as feminist poetry and linguistically innovative poetry) and also in work that makes a stimulating case for areas which are neglected.

This series aims to publish monographs, editions or collections of papers based on recent research into modern French literature. It welcomes contributions from academics, researchers and writers worldwide and in British and Irish universities in particular. Modern French Identities focuses on the French and Francophone writing of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, whose formal experiments and revisions of genre have combined to create an entirely new set of literary forms, from the thematic autobiographies of Michel Leiris and Bernard Noël to the magic realism of French Caribbean writers. The idea that identities are constructed rather than found, and that the self is an area to explore rather than a given pretext, runs through much of modern French literature, from Proust, Gide, Apollinaire and Césaire to Barthes, Duras, Kristeva, Glissant, Germain and Roubaud. This series explores the turmoil in ideas and values expressed in the works of theorists like Lacan, Irigaray, Foucault, Fanon, Deleuze and Bourdieu and traces the impact of current theoretical approaches – such as gender and sexuality studies, de/coloniality, intersectionality, and ecocriticism – on the literary and cultural interpretation of the self. The series publishes studies of individual authors and artists, comparative studies, and interdisciplinary projects and welcomes research on autobiography, cinema, fiction, poetry and performance art and/or the intersections between them. The books in the Modern American Literature: New Approaches series deal with many of the major writers known as American realists, modernists, and post-modernists from 1880 to the present. This category of writers will also include less known ethnic and minority writers, a majority of whom are African American, some are Native American, Mexican American, Japanese American, Chinese American, and others. The series might also include studies on well-known contemporary writers, such as James Dickey, Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder, John Barth, John Updike, and Joyce Carol Oates. In general, the series will reflect new critical approaches such as deconstructionism, new historicism, psychoanalytical criticism, gender criticism/feminism, and cultural criticism.

The scholarly series Studies in Early Modern European Culture aims at publishing scholarly works in the areas of Venetian studies, early modern and modern history, and cultural studies. The series includes monographs in English and Italian which reflect the interdisciplinary activities of the CIES. In exceptional cases, the series will accept also works produced by scholars not working at, or affiliated with, CIES. Studies in Modern Poetry

This series brings together book-length works on particular modern poets and twentieth-century movements as well as comparative and theoretical studies. Works in the series seek to explore the contributions of twentieth-century poets beyond the well-known major figures of Modernism such as Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot, in the belief that modern poetry is characterized by its variety, richness and scope. The series focuses on books which compare poetic projects from different national and linguistic traditions or explore the interconnections between poetic expression and the other arts. Authors whose critical approaches utilize contemporary literary theory and/or multicultural perspectives are especially encouraged to consider this series. Languages of the poetry studied include, but are not limited to, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, though the texts should be written in English and addressed to readers beyond strictly national or disciplinary boundaries.

Die Società – Forum für Ethik, Kunst und Recht bietet in ihrer Schriftenreihe dem Austausch all jener Wissenschaften ein Forum, die sich der Erforschung der Grundlagen einer freien Gemeinschaft verschrieben haben. Besonderes Augenmerk wird hierbei auf die Geisteswissenschaften, die Rechtswissenschaften und die Informationswissenschaften gelegt. Die Ergebnisse der interdisziplinären Konferenzen der Società sowie ausgewählte Monografien helfen Antworten auf die Frage zu finden, wie der Gesellschaftsvertrag einer Gemeinschaft freier gestaltender Individuen aussehen könnte – vor allem angesichts technologischer Innovation und divergierender ethischer Konzepte.

La collection Transversales propose une plate-forme de débats, de confrontations des travaux portant sur le plurilinguisme et la pluriculturalité. Elle s’intéresse aux intersections possibles entre langues, sociétés et cultures, notamment à travers l’analyse de situations de contacts entre les individus et groupes dans le cadre de politiques linguistiques au sein des institutions éducatives au sens large. On y aborde aussi les questions liées aux personnes en situation de mobilité et à leurs stratégies linguistiques, sociales, culturelles mises en Œœuvre dans la communication quotidienne. Par des approches bi- ou pluridisciplinaires, Transversales interroge les conceptions de l’altérité, l’évolution des représentations véhiculées dans l’apprentissage des langues et dans la formation des médiateurs culturels.

"In ihrer neuen Editionsreihe veröffentlicht die Schweizerische Musikforschende Gesellschaft (SMG) Kompositionen mit Schweizer Kontext in kritischer Edition. Die Grundlage für eine erste Auswahl an bedeutsamen Werken schuf das vom Schweizerischen Nationalfonds getragene Projekt Musik aus Schweizer Klöstern und dessen Folgeprojekte am Institut für Musikwissenschaft der Universität Freiburg i. Ü.; ein umfangreiches Forschungsvorhaben, an dem auch die Arbeitsstelle Schweiz des Répertoire International des Sources Musicales (RISM) und die Schweizer Nationalphonothek beteiligt sind. Ziel ist es, musikalische Quellen aus dem 17., 18. und 19. Jahrhundert, die sich in Schweizer Klöstern erhalten haben, zu sichten, zu untersuchen und in ihren historischen und liturgischen Zusammenhängen zu deuten. Die ausgewählten Kompositionen sind in verschiedener Hinsicht repräsentativ: Bestimmte Quellen erlauben es zum Beispiel, den Vorgang der Beschaffung und der oftmals erfindungsreichen Adaption von Musikalien zu rekonstruieren, als deren Provenienz häufig die katholischen Gegenden des Alpenraums oder die grossen Musikmetropolen Europas zu eruieren sind. Andere Werke wurden von den Konventualen der einzelnen Klostergemeinschaften für ihre eigene Musikpflege komponiert und blieben bis heute an Ort aufbewahrt. Sie sind wichtige Zeugen spezifischer liturgischer und musikalischer Praktiken und nicht selten Beispiele für die Leichtigkeit, mit welcher die Musiker der Peripherie verschiedene gängige Stile handhabten. Es wurden jedoch von den Klöstern auch gezielt Werke bei prestigeträchtigen externen Autoren in Auftrag gegeben. Und nicht zuletzt finden sich in den Sammlungen musikalische Kostbarkeiten, die zufällig erhalten geblieben sind: Da die Schweiz weitgehend von Kriegszerstörungen verschont wurde, trifft man in den Klosterbibliotheken bisweilen auf Unika von geradezu spektakulärem historischem und ästhetischem Wert. Das Editionsprojekt beabsichtigt, wichtige Forschungslücken zu schliessen und die Vielfalt musikalischer Zeugnisse historisch zu beleuchten, um damit eine ungemein reiche Seite der schweizerischen Kulturgeschichte sichtbar zu machen. Die mit einem quellenkritischen Apparat versehenen Ausgaben wenden sich gleichermassen an die Wissenschaft wie an die musikalische Praxis mit der Intention, das Wissen um ein reichhaltiges Repertoire an geistlicher Musik aus drei Jahrhunderten zu bereichern. The editor is particularly interested in studies devoted to the literary, historical, philosophical, and theological aspects of mysticism; comparative studies between religious traditions are welcome.
