Founded in 1984 by Günter Büschges and Hansjürgen Daheim, the series covers a broad range of topics and research questions. Publications can be in German as well as English.

As indicated by its name, this series is devoted to the interpretation of ancient Greek and Latin texts. It accommodates not only studies of special subjects and individual authors, but also annotated editions as well as commentaries. In the tradition of critical scholarship the collection is uncompromisingly philological without however excluding new approaches and methods of exegesis. Each of the volumes represents independent and original research which contributes to the understanding of ancient texts whether in the form of critical exposition or the investigation of specific problems. It is in this sense that they genuinely further the discipline of classical philology. At the same time the series welcomes studies of the reception and influence of ancient texts including in particular the history of their transmission as well as the historical development of philology in its various aspects. In order to reach as wide a readership as possible, publication is restricted to works written in those languages most commonly in use in classical scholarship. Special importance is attached to clear presentation and a choice of language that can be readily understood. Authors are moreover encouraged to provide translations wherever they would aid comprehension. Ultimately Sapheneia should not only advance classical studies,but also deepen our understanding of the intellectual tradition of the western world. As of volume 24, the series is no longer published by Peter Lang Verlag. Comme l’indique son nom, cette collection est consacrée à l’interprétation de textes anciens, grecs et latins. Elle offre un cadre à des monographies consacrées à un sujet ou à un auteur spécifique, mais aussi à des commentaires ou à des éditions annotées. La tradition de l’analyse critique nous oblige à concevoir son contenu comme une démarche philologique rigoureuse. Ceci ne saurait exclure cependant ni l’exploration de voies nouvelles, ni un élargissement des méthodes d’interprétation des textes. Les volumes de cette collection doivent relever d’une recherche indépendante, tant du point de vue de leur exégèse que de celui de l’approche analytique. En ce sens, elle offre un apport original à la philologie classique. Une grande importance y est donnée à la continuité et à l’actualité de la lecture des textes antiques, particulièrement dans les domaines de l’histoire de la transmission, de l’interprétation ainsi que de l’historique de la discipline philologique. Pour toucher un public aussi large que possible, cette collection comprendra des volumes dans les langues courantes du monde scientifique. Die Reihe fördert – ihrem Titel entsprechend – die Interpretation antiker griechischer und lateinischer Texte und bietet Raum nicht nur für Monographien zu speziellen Themen und Autoren, sondern auch für Ausgaben mit erklärenden Anmerkungen oder einem ausführlichen Kommentar. Der Tradition der kritischen Wissenschaft verpflichtet, versteht sich die Reihe als eine streng philologische, ohne sich jedoch neuen Richtungen und erweiterten Methoden der textlichen Auslegung zu verschliessen. This «Social Economy & Public Economy» series brings together books and monographs with a common focus: the analysis of the economic activities of formal and informal organisations that aim to serve the «public/general interest» or broad «common welfare» of their societies. Diverse initiatives and a wide variety of organisational forms are concerned: public or private nonprofit organisations and services, social services, public utilities, regulatory rules and actions, public enterprises, local community and regional economic development bodies, cooperatives, mutualist enterprises, etc. The series aims to promote a more scientific, and in-depth international and comparative understanding of this type of research that has been rapidly expanding in recent years. The series will reflect about these developments and through its dissemination, it will also support the increasing inter-disciplinarity and multi-disciplinarity of much of this recent research (e.g. economics, sociology, political science, law, policy evaluation and policy analysis, etc.) Editorial responsibility for the series resides with CIRIEC, an international scientific organisation that promotes, supports and disseminates research on the public economy, the social economy, and cooperatives. One of CIRIEC’s key goals and activities is the promotion, support, and expansion of a large international network of researchers who specialise in these issues. Die Zielsetzung der Reihe Social Strategies ist es, Theorie und Praxis in soziologischen und gesellschaftspolitischen Problemstellungen zu verbinden. Dabei interessieren fundierte Analysen sowie konkrete Lösungsansätze und Handlungsvorschläge. Inhaltliche Schwerpunkte bilden die Bereiche soziale Ungleichheit sowie Konflikt und Kooperation im Kontext globaler Prozesse. Eine enge Zusammenarbeit besteht mit der Hochschule für Soziale Arbeit (Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz), dem Basler Institut für Soziologie (Universität Basel) und dem dort angesiedelten Zentrum für Konfliktforschung. Daneben nimmt die Reihe aber auch Manuskripte von anderen Forscherinnen und Forschern auf. Die sozialwissenschaftlich orientierten Arbeiten sollen neben dem wissenschaftlichen auch ein breiteres, an soziologischen und gesellschaftspolitischen Fragen interessiertes Publikum ansprechen. Publiziert werden Kongressberichte, Festschriften, Dissertationen und weitere Arbeiten, die sich interdisziplinär mit sozialen Fragen und Strategien auseinander setzen. Die Publikationssprachen sind deutsch, englisch und französisch.

Cette collection vise à approfondir la réflexion sur les rencontres, les conflits et les transformations qui ont eu lieu au Moyen-Orient à partir du XVème siècle jusqu’au présent et même au-delà. Elle souhaite recevoir des propositions venant des sciences sociales et humaines prenant en consideration l’adoption, le développement ou la réélaboration de phénomènes sociaux et culturels fondamentaux dans l’aire du Moyen-Orient, conçu dans son acception la plus large, à n’importe quel moment de l’histoire entre le XVème siècle et l’âge contemporain avec une attention particulière à leurs futures implications.

Anthropologie et philosophie sociale

Cette collection a pour objectif de promouvoir des recherches philosophiques se situant au croisement de l’anthropologie et de la philosophie sociale. L’hypothèse fondamentale est qu’une philosophie sociale soucieuse d’interroger de façon à la fois descriptive et critique les modes contemporains de constitution du lien social ne peut manquer de questionner les présupposés anthropologiques qui sous-tendent son interrogation. Inversement, toute recherche sur les dimensions essentielles de la condition humaine se doit d’interroger la façon dont celles-ci sont chaque fois mises en jeu et recomposées par le contexte social-historique au sein duquel les individus se trouvent. Attentive à la vulnérabilité radicale de la vie individuelle et collective tout autant qu’à sa puissance de création, cette collection vise à faire de l’anthropologie et de la philosophie sociale l’envers et l’endroit d’un même mouvement de recherche portant sur la vie subjective et sa socialité originaire. Dans cette perspective, il s’agit, pour une part, de favoriser la reprise de concepts anthropologiques récents ou provenant de l’épaisseur de l’histoire de façon à les rendre opératoires pour une philosophie sociale questionnant ses propres présupposés anthropologiques. Il s’agit, pour une seconde part, de permettre aux recherches effectuées en anthropologie de questionner leurs présupposés normatifs. Une telle collection désire ainsi ouvrir un espace de réflexion informé par un double mouvement, celui de l’anthropologie vers la philosophie sociale, celui de la philosophie sociale vers l’anthropologie.

Language as Social Action

This Series explores new and exciting advances in the ways in which language both reflects and fashions social reality--and thereby constitutes critical means of social action. As well as these being central foci in face-to-face interactions across different cultures, they also assume significance in the ways that language functions in the mass medias, new technologies, organizations, and social institutions. Language As Social Action does not uphold apartheid against any particular methodological and/or ideological position, but, rather, promotes (wherever possible) cross-fertilization of ideas and empirical data across the many, all-too-contrastive, social scientific approaches to language and communication. Contributors to the Series will also accord due attention to the historical, political, and economic forces that contextually bound the ways in which language patterns are analyzed, produced, and received. The Series will also provide an important platform for theory-driven works that have profound, and oftentimes provocative, implications for social policy.

Professor Hans-Jörg Schwenk (1959–2020) und Professor Janusz Golec haben die Reihe „Lubliner Beiträge zur Germanistik und Angewandten Linguistik” mitbegründet und bis zur Veröffentlichung des Bandes Nr. 14 mitherausgegeben. In der Reihe werden Arbeiten zur Literatur-, Kultur- und Sprachwissenschaft, sowie zur Fremdsprachendidaktik und angewandten Linguistik veröffentlicht. Die Schriftenreihe erscheint seit dem Jahr 2013 und präsentiert aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse in diesen Bereichen. Sie umfasst Monographien und Sammelbände über einzelne Autorinnen und Autoren, Gattungen und Themen aus dem Gebiet der deutschsprachigen Literatur- und Kulturgeschichte. Der Schwerpunkt linguistischer Reflexion in der Reihe liegt auf der eingehenden Erörterung applikativer Fragen, die in den Teilgebieten der Linguistik thematisiert werden. Die Reihe bietet auch Studien über die Relationen Sprache –Text – Diskurs an. Since the second half of the 1980s attention for international comparative aspects of social and labour history has been a central element in the research and publication policy of the Amsterdam-based International Institute of Social History (IISH). The new series INTERNATIONAL AND COMPARATIVE SOCIAL HISTORY, published by Peter Lang AG, is designed as an outlet for this IISH-policy The series will contain collections of essays and monographs. «Regional Integration and Social Cohesion» (RISC) is an interdisciplinary and multilingual (English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese) series that examines the human and environmental impacts of regional integration, defined legally/politically (supranationalism), economically (globalization), socially (identity), and geographically (borders). The series aims to link global analysis of issues associated with social cohesion, such as market shifts, immigration, environmental risk and the deterioration of natural resources, human rights, violence and security, etc., with national and subnational studies that focus on political decision-making, the non-governmental sector and social participation in public debates, economic transformations, social marginalization, identity, etc. Thus, the series aims to combine the international, national and subnational arenas of politics in thematically-oriented research. While proposed case studies are welcome, the works presented in this series from all social science disciplines, are predominantly based on the comparative method. Studies that compare across geographic regions, defined continentally, are of particular interest. In addition to the scientific focus described above, this series aims to connect theoretical analysis of questions related to social cohesion with policy-based research. In doing so, it examines the role of political actors at different levels of regional integration processes and it studies citizen responses to changing opportunity structures in the economic, social and political spheres. Thus, the series attempts to shed light on contemporary shifts in the uses and types of power in policy-making processes. The issue of changes in how policies are being made is linked to: «who affects policy-making?» and «what impact do policies have in social and economic arenas?» « Intégration régionale et cohésion sociale » (RISC) est une collection interdisciplinaire et multilingue qui étudie les impacts humains et environnementaux qu’exerce l’intégration régionale, telle que définie légalement/politiquement (supranationalisme), économiquement (mondialisation), socialement (identité) et géographiquement (frontières). La collection cherche à mettre en relation d’une part l’analyse globale de problématiques associées à la cohésion sociale – les mouvements des marchés économiques, l’immigration, les enjeux écologiques, la préservation des ressources naturelles, les droits de l’homme, la violence et la sécurité, etc. – et d’autre part les études nationales et régionales/locales qui se centrent sur la prise de décision politique, le secteur non gouvernemental, la participation dans les débats publics, les transformations économiques, la marginalisation sociale, l’identité, etc. La collection cherche dès lors à combiner international, national et régional/local dans une perspective thématique. Si les études de cas y sont les bienvenues, on tentera cependant de privilégier les analyses comparatistes, dans le champ des sciences humaines, toutes disciplines confondues. Une attention toute particulière sera accordée aux études établissant des comparaisons entre continents. En outre, la collection souhaite relier l’analyse théorique de questions liées à la cohésion sociale à une recherche de type politique. Elle examine ainsi le rôle des acteurs politiques aux différents niveaux de l’intégration régionale et elle étudie la réaction des citoyens face aux mutations des structures économiques, sociales et politiques. RISC met dès lors en lumière les tendances contemporaines des usages et des types de pouvoir à l’œuvre dans les processus de prise de décision. La question de savoir comment les politiques sont élaborées est liée aux questions suivantes : « Qui peut influencer les politiques ? » et « quel est l’impact des politiques sur la scène politique et économique ? ».
