"Competing economic interests; political stalemates, internal disparities, and regional economic commonalties cutting across national boundaries are among some of the developments characterizing the difficult process of integrating of the Old Continent and building a united Europe. The monographs in this series intend to explore the practical and institutional aspects of the ongoing process, as well as to elucidate the anthropological, sociological, and cultural issues that pose a challenge to, or on the contrary, may be helping the process of achieving a continental identity. Among the purposes of this series is to make readers aware of the different options that may be available to the people of Europe, and to their leaders in defining the borders of the unified continent and in designing its role the context of global interdependence. "

La « Chaire Glaverbel d’études européennes », créée dans le cadre de l’Institut d’études européennes de l’Université Catholique de Louvain, entend contribuer de manière significative à la formation et à la réflexion sur des thèmes centraux de la construction européenne. Son ambition est de mieux former les étudiants à la lecture de leur environnement économique, social, politique et culturel et de favoriser ainsi leur capacité d’adaptation dans un monde en mutation. Un volume annuel publie les articles émanant des professeurs et experts internationaux invités à l’occasion des conférences et cours organisés dans le cadre de la chaire en histoire, sociétés, civilisations, science politique, droit et économie, ainsi qu’une sélection des meilleurs rapports remis par les étudiants. This series publishes monographs and edited collections on the history, present condition and possible future role of organised labour around the world. Multidisciplinary in approach, geographically and chronologically diverse, this series is dedicated to the study of trade unionism and the undeniably significant role it has played in modern society. Topics include the historical development of organised labour in a variety of national and regional settings; the political, economic and legal contexts in which trade unionism functions; trade union internationalism past and present; comparative and cross-border studies; trade unions role in promoting economic equality and social justice; and trade union revitalisation and future prospects. The aims of the series are to promote an appreciation of the diversity of trade union experience worldwide and to provide an international forum for lively debate on all aspects of the subject.
