Musica poetica widmet sich der Erforschung musikalischer Phänomene der frühen Neuzeit. Ästhetische, philologische, musiktheoretische, analytische und aufführungspraktische Fragestellungen stehen ebenso im Fokus der Reihe wie kulturwissenschaftliche Ansätze. Die frühe Neuzeit wurde in dichter Folge von katastrophischen Ereignissen, gesellschaftlichen Umwälzungen und wissenschaftlichen 'Turns' erschüttert. Leitfrage der Reihe ist nicht zuletzt, in welcher Weise fundamentale Verwerfungen wie der Dreißigjährige Krieg, der Durchbruch des galanten Paradigmas, cartesianische Wende oder Aufklärung ihre Spuren im Komponieren und Nachdenken über Musik hinterlassen haben. Musik avanciert als fester Bestandteil menschlichen Handelns zum klingenden Spiegel der frühen Neuzeit. Forschungsschwerpunkte sind u. a. kulturhistorische und ästhetische Fragestellungen zur Musik und Musiktheorie der Frühen Neuzeit, das Musik- und Tanztheater des 17. bis 20. Jahrhunderts, die Gattungsgeschichte des Liedes und die tschechische Musikgeschichte. Oliver Huck Professor für Historische Musikwissenschaft an der Universität Hamburg. Er ist Leiter des Integrierten Graduiertenkollegs "Manuskriptkulturen" im Sonderforschungsbereich 950 "Manuskriptkulturen in Asien, Afrika und Europa" und Mitglied des Graduiertenkollegs 2008 "Interkonfessionalität in der Frühen Neuzeit".

German Visual Culture

German Visual Culture invites research on German art across different periods, geographical locations, and political contexts. Books in the series engage with aesthetic and ideological continuities as well as ruptures and divergences between individual artists, movements, systems of art education, art institutions, and cultures of display. Challenging scholarship that interrogates and updates existing orthodoxies in the field is desirable. A guiding question of the series is the impact of German art on critical and public spheres, both inside and outside the German-speaking world. Reception is thus conceived in the broadest possible terms, including both the ways in which art has been perceived and defined as well as the ways in which modern and contemporary German artists have undertaken visual dialogues with their predecessors or contemporaries. Issues of cultural transfer, critical race theory and related postcolonial analysis, feminism, queer theory, and other interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged, as are studies on production and consumption, especially the art market, pioneering publishing houses, and the ‘little magazines’ of the avant-garde. All proposals for monographs and edited collections in the history of German visual culture will be considered, although English will be the language of all contributions. Submissions are subject to rigorous peer review. The series will be promoted through the series editor’s Research Forum for German Visual Culture (https://www.eca.ed.ac.uk/research/research-forum-german-visual-culture), which he founded at the University of Edinburgh in 2011, and which has involved various symposia and related publications, all connected to an international network of Germanist scholars.

Visual communication is the process through which individuals in relationships, organizations, and cultures interpret and create visual messages in response to their environment, one another, and social structures. This series seeks to enhance our understanding of visual communication and it explores the role of visual communication in culture. Topics of interest include visual perception and cognition; signs and symbols; typography and image; research on graph ic design, use of visual imagery in education. On a cultural level, research on visual media analysis and critical methods that examine the larger cultural messages imbedded in visual images is welcome. By providing a variety of approaches to the analysis of visual media and messages, this book series is designed to explore issues relating to visual literacy, visual communication, visual rhetoric, visual culture, and any unique method for examining visual communication.

The "Visual Arts and Hispanic Societies" series is devoted to monographic or collective works in Spanish on artistic representations of the cultures of Hispanic countries, in Spain and in the Americas as well as territories or communities on other continents. The concept of ʻvisual artsʼ includes all forms of representation related to the image, whether they refer to academic arts such as photography, painting, theatre and film, or to more recent, popular and/or heterogeneous styles such as graphic novels, television, video games, street art, installations, interventions and other forms of free or ephemeral art, whether or not linked to new technologies. This collection aims to bring together authors writing from different perspectives who are interested in the social function of current or traditional art, in the way in which visual representations seek to convey critical, pragmatic, committed and/or political points of view on the conflicts through which Hispanic societies evolved in the past or are currently being transformed. La colección "Artes visuales y sociedades hispánicas" está dedicada a trabajos monográficos o colectivos en español sobre representaciones artísticas de las culturas de los países hispánicos, tanto en España y América como en algunos territorios o comunidades de otros continentes. El concepto de ʻartes visualesʼ incluye aquí toda forma de representación relacionada con la imagen, ya se refiera a artes académicas como la fotografía, la pintura, el teatro y el cine, o a estilos más recientes, populares y/o heterogéneos como la historieta, la novela gráfica, la televisión, los videojuegos, el street art, las instalaciones y otras modalidades de arte libre o efímero, ligados o no a las nuevas tecnologías. Esta colección pretende asociar a una serie de autores de horizontes diversos interesados por la función social del arte actual o tradicional, por la manera en que las representaciones visuales pretenden transmitir puntos de vista críticos, pragmáticos, comprometidos y/o políticos sobre los conflictos a través de los cuales evolucionaron en el pasado o se transforman actualmente las sociedades hispánicas. Music and Spirituality explores the relationships between spirituality and music in a variety of traditions and contexts including those in which human beings have performed music with spiritual intention or effect. It addresses the plurality of modern society in the areas of musical style and philosophical and religious beliefs, and gives respect to different positions regarding the place of music both in worship and in the wider society. The series will include historical, anthropological, musicological, ethnomusicological, theological and philosophical dimensions and encourages multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary contributions. It looks for well-researched studies with new and open approaches to spirituality and music and encourages interesting innovative case-studies. Books within the series are subject to peer review and will include single and co-authored monographs as well as edited collections including conference proceedings. The use of musical material in either written or recorded form as part of submissions is welcome.

Innerhalb der Schriftenreihe ARS MUSICA. Interdisziplinäre Studien wird die Musik sowohl in ihrer inneren Struktur und in ihrem Sein als auch in ihrem kulturellen und sozialen Kontext analysiert, wie z. B. in ihrer Beziehung zu den anderen Kunstgebieten, zu den Wissenschaften, zur Philosophie, zur Theologie, zur Politik, zum Recht und insbesondere zur Religion, von der sich die Musik seit Beginn ihrer Existenz hat inspirieren lassen. Es geht also um eine Erforschung des Seins der Musik sowohl im Hinblick auf ihre theoretischen als auch auf ihre praktischen Dimensionen, die sich aus den mannigfaltigen Daseinsweisen der menschlichen Person als des eigentlichen Subjekts jedes musikalischen Opus‘ ergeben. Neben systematischen werden auch historische Analysen vorgenommen. Die Schriftenreihe dient dem interkulturellen und internationalen Ideenaustausch und trägt damit der Musik als einer universellen und zugleich personalen Realität Rechnung. "Interdisziplinäre Studien zur Musik / Interdisciplinary Studies of Music" is a publication series that emphasizes the transdisciplinary and international nature of musicological research. The series editors, Tomi Mäkelä (Professor of Musicology at Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg) and Tobias Robert Klein (Privatdozent at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin) are equally interested in manuscripts with a historical, systematic or transcultural orientation. Hitherto published volumes (both monographs and edited collections) cover a wide range of topics from musical multilingualism to current debates in performance theory. Languages of publication are English and German. Die Reihe "Interdisziplinäre Studien zur Musik / Interdisciplinary Studies of Music" umfasst Arbeiten in deutscher und englischer Sprache, deren über Fächergrenzen hinausweisende Perspektiven den interdisziplinären und internationalen Charakter der Musikwissenschaft betonen.
