As technology continues to rapidly move ahead, it will become increasingly important to have strategies in place to ensure integration and use of technology in the college environment. Unfortunately, in the past few years, faculty in higher education have moved from being creators and innovative users of the Internet to late and resistant adopters.
Faculty and universities were at the forefront of the development of the Internet
Since the development of ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), the world’s first operational packet switching network that became the basis for the global Internet, college faculty members have played a pioneering role as facilitators of the Internet development in the 1960s and beyond.1
