Challenging Disinformation, Deception, and Manipulation
PART 2 Rehabilitating Public Communication & the Public Sphere
Rehabilitating Public Communication & the Public Sphere
The following chapter and conclusions explore opportunities for reform in a number of areas of professional practice and policy to restore ethical public communication and an effective public sphere. While these specialized areas cannot be dealt with fully in a single analysis, each requiring ongoing research and the input of experts in those fields, the purpose here is to make the case for a coordinated collective approach, rather than pointing the finger at a few ‘bad apples’ or seeking a single ‘silver bullet’ solution. A range of strategies are proposed to address disinformation, deception, and manipulation.
