Popularizing the Enthymeme: Fans for Aristotle In the great works of art, there is a latent reasoning, as in the body life, harmoniously spreading into all its organs, here or there brightly appearing to be healthy life in plenitude.1 The enthymeme is like a magic stereogram picture. For a moment, one must be patient. Suddenly the amazement occurs. What is demanded here is this bit of patience. In order to gain a quicker comprehension of the next chapters, these preliminary pages are devoted to learning how “to see” an enthymeme and what it is important for. Since the enthymeme is at the heart of Aristotle’s understanding of discourse, we intend to present the enthymeme as a basic resource, an essential competence that can be learned and mastered to produce efficient performances for all kinds of educational purposes, inasmuch as enthymemes are the body of proof and the basic tool for organizing information. In fact, as J. Lau points out, Information has become a vital source for world economies and is certainly the basic component of education. Information is a vital element to technological and scien- tific change. It poses several challenges to individuals of all walks of life: students, workers, and citizens of all types. The current information overload requires people to validate and assess information to verify its reliability. Information by itself does not make people information literate.
