Evaluation of Teacher Candidates’ Communication Skills

Abstract: The study aimed to evaluate teacher candidates’ communication skills. The Faculty of Education University of Bartin Class Teacher Education, Science Teacher Education, Mathematics Education and Social Studies Education Department took more than 175 candidate teachers studying in the field. Communication Skills Invertory is developed by Ersan and Balcı (1998) and used in the collection of the data. This inventory is a likert-type five measurement tool consisting of 45 items. The scale is of mental, emotional and behavioural measures in terms of communication skills. Located 15 questions each size-related. In research, teacher candidates communication skills have been investigated according to their genders without look at their subjects. The target population was the Faculty of Education. The research sampling is 175 students from selected final year students at the Department of Elementary Education. The survey model is used in the research study. The analysis of data used was the statistical processing of the data from independent groups t-test and one-way anova. As a result of the research, teacher candidates in communication skills was found with a significant difference in favour of females. Teacher candidates in communication skills was found with a significant difference in the science branches. This difference is in favour of Class Teaching include Class Teacher Education, Science Teacher Education, Mathematics Education and Social Studies Education Department.
