Pre-Service Teacher Cognition: A Case Study in Pedagogical Formation Certificate Program

Abstract: In the last three decades, the studies of teachers’ beliefs on learning and teaching have risen as one of the main inquiries in the field of teacher education. Understanding the beliefs on what teaching and learning is to the teacher candidates involved in the pedagogical formation course program is critical as it may also play a fundamental role in their future practice in ELT. Using quantitative studies, the aim was to investigate the beliefs and assumptions of these teacher candidates in order to provide results not only to teachers, but also to similar teaching training programs in and outside Turkish context. The study was conducted with 60 pre-service teachers at Dumlupınar University and two questionnaires as pre- and post-tests.
