Geschichten über die Liebe und den Streit mittelalterlicher Sänger haben eine lange Tradition. So berichten Dichter vom Mittelalter bis in die Gegenwart vom Tannhäuser im Venusberg, von Meistersängern in- und außerhalb Nürnbergs oder vom Sängerkrieg auf der Wartburg. Imaginationen lyrischer Handlungs- und Lebensweisen verdichten sich dabei zu einer spezifisch selbstbezogenen Reflexion über Kunst. Die Frage, inwiefern darin zugleich ein Phänomen ästhetischer Gedächtnisbildung vorliegt, bildet den Gegenstand des Sammelbandes. Er spannt den Bogen von den mittelalterlichen Textzeugen hin zu neuzeitlichen Adaptionen von der Romantik bis in die Postmoderne.

Poetische Faktur und ästhetisches Gedächtnis bei Irmtraud Morgner

Abstract: Irmtraud Morgner’s Trobadora Beatriz is an outstanding feminist novel and it has become one of the most discussed works of GDR-writers in the field of Gender-Studies. Apart from its importance for gender discourses, the novel offers a good opportunity to investigate various aspects of intertextuality. After having shown that medieval texts play a crucial role in Morgner’s novel, I will focus on some of the ways Morgner’s Trobadora utilizes these texts and its poetics, and on how the intertexts may be read as cultural textures integrated in the novel’s complex texture. The (very short) medieval vida of the (real) Trobairitz Beatrice is cited twice in Morgner’s novel: at the very beginning and within an intradiegetic story of a male character at the end. By providing very little information about the medieval singer, Morgner uses her as a carte blanche for developing stories about her medieval and contemporary live. In so doing, the novel does not only tell a fictional biography about a medieval singer awoken after 800 years, it also construes a literary character and female artist, paradigmatically illustrating these figures’ place within society. These aspects are reinforced in the songs of the Trobadora. The first song in Morgner’s novel is a translation of a medieval song which survived in many medieval manuscripts.
