1 Introduction

Integrative medicine is an integrative medicine practice and includes practices and methods for integrating alternative, complementary and scientific data-based medical practices into each other. In Turkey, the Ministry of Health within the Directorate General of Health Services in legislative decree No. 2014 663 (SCC) pursuant to the “Traditional and Complementary Medicine Practice Department” was established. In the regulation prepared by the Department of Traditional and Complementary Medicine Practices, the initiatives to be carried out at the units and application centers are discussed in 15 sub-headings. These topics include acupuncture, apitherapy, phytotherapy, hypnosis, leech, homeopathy, chiropractic, cup application, larval application, mesotherapy, prolotherapy, osteopathic ozone application, reflexology and music therapy. One of the most frequently used areas of integrative health is pain. Pain affects the individual’s body, soul and mental processes. The use of complementary methods in pain management enables the patient to participate more effectively. The main purpose of integrative medicine applications is to increase self-management power by supporting the participation of the individual in the treatment process. Thus, the individual can remain their health management even if their connection with the health team is cut. Integrative health applications form the door-control mechanism in pain, activating the nociceptive afferent system by increasing the release of endogenous opioids.
