2.4   Is Human Resources Management Ready for Industry 4.0? An Analysis on the New Human Resources Paradigm

Abstract: The objective of this study is to present the transformation that Human Resources Management (HRM) is undergoing thanks to Smart Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 and the changing functions of HRM. New technologies associated with Industry 4.0 bear qualities that will affect all functions of HRM, starting from planning. These new technologies have begun triggering certain structural changes in the labor market. As a result, today some occupations are dying out and some new ones are emerging, and thus the nature of certain professions is also being affected. The success of businesses in this new era will clearly depend on the qualifications of employees and on whether Human Resources Management practices are compatible with Industry 4.0. New technologies (such as Big Data Analytics, Robotic) require “smart workers” and a new form of “Human Resources Management called Human Resources 4.0.” Managers from every level, especially human resources managers, should focus not only on technological innovations but also on the changes in the nature of Human Resources in order to adapt to Industry 4.0. The fourth industrial revolution will require a major change in human resource skills, recruitment and training.
