In a knowledge-based society education and technologies appear as the decisive driving-forces of the development, and one of the most important challenges is the adaptation process of education adequately to the present societal and cultural changes. The following considerations extrapolate a multidisciplinary approach to the present conditions and circumstances of education, and are especially focusing on concerns such as the significance of technological development and the moral agency of technologies in the field of education, the questions concerning methods of languages and competences acquisition basing on the CLIL and e-learning methods, and finally the characteristic of engineers’ education orientated on the interdisciplinary concept of the converging technologies.

Education and Technologies as the Drive-Forces of Modern Society In a knowledge-based society one of the most important challenges is the adaptation process of education adequately to the present societal and cultural changes. Cultural encounters with their linguistic diversity and differences have a great impact on socio-political dynamics. In a globalized word basing on technologies and media people face cultural encounters not only with national cultures and languages but also with different modes of communication as well as acquiring knowledge. Due to new technologies transcultural societies evolve not only in reality because of migration processes but also in virtual communities where knowledge is transmitted and new workforces are established. Thus there is the need for multilingual education programmes beyond borders and nation-states. Learning skills should be applied to this challenging situation. The necessity of the elaboration of a new orientation concerning the question of competences formation results from the process of developing into modern society with the appearance of new forms and structures of the knowledge-based society. From the theoretical point of view the main framework of this new form of society is the dialogue of humanities with the theories of culture, and the accelerated development and mass-dissemination of the new ICT. This concerns especially the specificity of the high engineering education and the designation of the role of humanities in the modern engineers’ formation.
