Deutschsprachige Literaturen nach der Wende 1989
Kontinuität oder Neubeginn?
In comparison to the caesura in German literature in the year 1968 the question arises whether the political turning point of the year 1989 lead to new thematic aspects and tendencies in the literary development making it necessary to regard the year 1989 as a similar caesura in German literature as the year 1968. The comparison of the literary aspects and tendencies in the Federal Republic of Germany after the year 1968 with the literary developments in the Federal Republic after the year 1989 might be a suitable way of research. The comparison leads to the conclusion that new thematic aspects of the German Democratic Republic completed the literary topics of the year 1968 simultaneously making up for an over twenty year delay. A basic change in German literature after the year 1989 can however not be stated. Thus the existence of a caesura or a fundamental change in German literature after the year 1989 cannot be detected. Only the "ending" literature of the former German Democratic Republic can at most be regarded as a kind of specific turning point literature.
