Heimat und multiple Identitäten
Repräsentationen der Alterität im Film Geschwister von Thomas Arslan
The labour migration to Germany in the 1960's affected also arts an culture, e.g., in literature, but also in film. One of the film directors who addresses migration in his films is Thomas Arslan. Taking his film Geschwister as an example, this paper shows the consequences of migration for family relations and the identity of their members. Geschwister deals with a bicultural marriage of a Turkish man and a German woman with three children. The paper attempts to analyse the narrative structure of the film showing their relations among each other, those of the children with their parents and their home countries.
