Die Autoren der Prager deutschen Literatur als (kulturelle) Übersetzer
The article asks for the localisation of the mostly jewish Prague-German writers and translators between Germans and Czechs. While the Liblice-Conference of 1965 (about Prague-German literature) understood them as cultural mediators in the sense of Marxist internationalism, Scott Spector has claimed in 2000 that they wanted to constitute a "middle nation" by her writing for reasons of survival. The in both cases presupposed model of mediatorship has been criticized in a study on German literature of Turkish migrants by Leslie A. Adelson as owed to an inadequate idea of unifying national cultures. Therefore, the article understands the "between" in view to the urban space of Prague as fundamental fact applicable to all ethnic groups with bare exceptions in which the fundamental mixture of all culture is intentionally forgotten. This model is at last (with Walter Benjamin) applied to the literature and activity of translation of the Prague German writers.
