Overview of Public Administration Discipline in Turkey Specific to the Journal of Public Administration



When it is public administration, it is possible to think in two senses. The first is the public and the whole organisation of the public. The study of public management in organisations coincides with the emergence of management as a science, namely at the end of the 1800s. From that day to this, the findings obtained as a result of the studies emerge as practices in government and private sector organisations in some places. The second sense is that it is a branch of science with education and training as a study area. Today, there are nearly a 100 public administration departments in total and many graduate programs in public and private universities. Besides, there are many faculty and institute journals of the discipline, periodical, and non-periodical publications. Many studies give us an idea of the discipline specific to the study area.

In this study, the origins of the discipline of public administration in our country and the present case are discussed briefly. After that, the relationship between the object of discipline and business and politics, which are connected sciences, will be discussed. In this context, the changes in the discipline are attempted to be understood through the articles in the Amme İdaresi Dergisi (AİD - Journal of Public Administration), which is published four times a year since 1968 and the only public administration journal scanned in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI).
