The Benedictines and the building of Eastern Christian Studies in Salzburg From its initial stages, the efforts to establish an International Catholic University/Albertus-Magnus University in Salzburg, which restarted immediately after the Second World War, also included the idea of an own Institute for Eastern Christian Studies. Based on sources from diverse archives, the article illustrates the developments from this initial idea to the establishment of the Department for the Christian East at the International Research Center (IFZ) and its main research in the 1960ies.
