Lectures croisées I

Series:

Anne Begenat-Neuschäfer, Daniel Delas, Tania Celestino de Macedo and Khalid Zekri

Extract

Abstract

The text presents the main stages of the historical and literary representations of the Queen Nzinga Mbandi (1583–1663), since the first contemporary descriptions until today. The image of the Mbundu queen is mainly used to strengthen identitary constructions, in Angola as well as in Brazil, and the stories about the Queen Nzinga offer excellent elements to show the ancient link between Africa and Brazil.
