How to Promote the Healthy Development of Human Resources in Children and Youth?

Satu Uusiautti and Kaarina Määttä

Jungle of Concepts: The Connection between Human Resources and Positive Development and Health

Every human being’s life is filled with promises and chances, and strengths and positive resources do not belong to just certain people. Happiness and satisfaction must be understood as the outcome of an interaction process between individual characteristics and aspirations on the one side, and social relations and macro-social structures on the other side1. It seems that endeavors to increase happiness and well-being have become increasingly more popular in educational settings2. Positive psychology offers a suitable theoretical basis for conceptualizing and planning such interventions3,4. One basic idea is that well-being is not only valuable because it feels good but also because it has beneficial effects not only for the individualsee 5 but also for society6.
