Summary

Based on the contemporary state-of-the-art of Environmental Education (EE), the book deals with some basic conceptual frameworks and methodological foundations of modern EE, within our technological society. The book sets out to stimulate the readers with new ways of thinking, enriching them with new perspectives, images, concepts, associations and outlooks concerning the environment and EE. Under the umbrella of the ecological paradigm, a new metalanguage between various fields of study is explored, striving towards an open-ended synthesis which cuts through science & humanity, through philosophy & practical wisdom. In achieving a clearer picture of the boundaries of EE as a new area of knowledge, the book attempts to formulate a coherent theory of education. Such an endeavor, not achieved thus far, offers a foundation for the development of STES-oriented curricula.

Biographical notes

Shoshana Helen Keiny (Volume editor) Uri Zoller (Volume editor)

The Editors: Shoshana Keiny, lecturer in the Education Department of the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, acted also as head of the Unit for Environmental Education in the Sdeh-Boker campus, Israel. Actively involved in national projects of actionresearch in schools, her areas of teaching and research are: EE curriculum development and evaluation: school improvement and effectivity; teachers' professional development as reflective practitioners. She has authored many articles and two books. Uri Zoller is the head of the Division of Chemical Studies, Department of Science Education at Haifa University-Oranim, The School of Education of the Kubbutz Movement in Israel. He is actively involved nationally and internationally in research and teaching in Science, technology and EE in the social context; synthetic organosulfur chemistry; and environmental chemistry. He is the author of more than 100 papers and three books.
