Die Reihe Frankfurter Forschungen zur Kultur- und Sprachwissenschaft bietet ein Forum für Veröffentlichungen aus dem Gebiet der Germanistik und Linguistik. Im Zentrum stehen dabei unterschiedliche Aspekte der deutschsprachigen Literaturwissenschaft: Von Klassikern wie Thomas Mann bis hin zu Alltagstexten wie Todesanzeigen. Der Herausgeber Horst Dieter Schlosser ist Professor für Deutsche Philologie und bekannt für seine Initiative zum Unwort des Jahres. Der Mitherausgeber Apl. Prof. Dr. Heiner Boehncke lehrt am Institut für deutsche Literatur und ihre Didaktik der Goethe-Universität und organisiert Kulturveranstaltungen. Band 20 schließt diese Reihe ab. Frankfurter öffentlich-rechtliche Studien
This series focuses on the life and work of the internationally celebrated German writer Lion Feuchtwanger (1884-1958). Of particular interest are topics such as Feuchtwanger's role as a critic of Weimar Germany and the rise of Nazism, his years of exile in France (1933-40) and in the USA (1940-58), his achievements as a proponent of the historical novel, and his reception both in post-war Germany and in the wider world. Besides offering fresh analyses of major novels such as Jud Süß, Erfolg, and Goya and the often controversial films which some of them inspired, the series presents Feuchtwanger in the context of his times, paying special attention to his years in Southern California and his relationships with other leading cultural figures of the era such as Bertolt Brecht, Charles Chaplin, Thomas Mann, and Arnold Zweig. Volumes in the series include selections of refereed papers from the biennial conferences of the International Feuchtwanger Society as well as specially commissioned monographs. Maß und Wert
Düsseldorfer Schriften zur deutschen LiteraturDie Reihe verfolgt das Ziel, die problematische Bindung von Wissenschaft an Ethik mittelbar und unmittelbar anzusprechen. Die Zeitschrift Maß und Wert war in den Jahren 1937 bis 1940 eines der Mittel, mit denen Thomas Mann sich der Verkennung der deutschen Entwicklung entgegenstellte. Inhaltlich sollen die germanistischen Studien ihr Maß aus dem Wert des Menschen gewinnen, sich systematisch im Hinblick auf Alexander Popes Vers The proper study of mankind is man begründen lassen. Euch ist kein Maß und Ziel gesetzt das sind Worte Mephistos, nachdem Faust den Pakt mit ihm geschlossen hat, zugleich aber Ausdruck der objektiven Gefährdung des neuzeitlichen Forschens. Sie wird im Werk Friedrich Nietzsches mit dem Kollektivsingular im Menschen ist Geschöpf und Schöpfer vereint vielfach variiert ausgeführt. Methodisch ist die Reihe für alle Zugänge offen.
