La « Chaire Glaverbel d’études européennes », créée dans le cadre de l’Institut d’études européennes de l’Université Catholique de Louvain, entend contribuer de manière significative à la formation et à la réflexion sur des thèmes centraux de la construction européenne. Son ambition est de mieux former les étudiants à la lecture de leur environnement économique, social, politique et culturel et de favoriser ainsi leur capacité d’adaptation dans un monde en mutation. Un volume annuel publie les articles émanant des professeurs et experts internationaux invités à l’occasion des conférences et cours organisés dans le cadre de la chaire en histoire, sociétés, civilisations, science politique, droit et économie, ainsi qu’une sélection des meilleurs rapports remis par les étudiants. Wie nur wenige Sektoren der Kultur sind Wissen und Wissenschaft dem historischen Wandel unterworfen. Diese Wandlungen ereignen sich nur selten als wissenschaftliche Revolutionen und radikale Paradigmenwechsel, sondern vollziehen sich vielmehr in Prozessen der Adaptation und Transformation, der Kombination und Rekonfiguration. Eben deshalb bedürfen Wissens- und Wissenschaftsgeschichte intensivierter theoretischer Reflexionen und historischer Recherchen, die Personen und Institutionen mit ihren Biogarphen und Praktiken ebenso in den Blick nehmen wie langfristig tradierte Konzepte und Verfahren zur Herstellung epistemischer Dinge und die vielfältigen Prozesse des Austauschs mit der kulturellen Öffentlichkeit. Die Berliner Beiträge zur Wissens- und Wissenschaftsgeschichte nehmen diese Herausforderungen an. Die Titel der Reihe widmen sich unterschiedlichen Aspekten der Wissens- und Wissenschaftsgeschichte und verbinden die systematische Klärung grundlegender Begriffe mit theoretisch informierten Rekonstruktionen historischer Entwicklungen. L'’’Union européenne s'’’inscrit dès lors dans un processus d'’’adaptation constant. Des défis et des nouvelles demandes surviennent sans cesse, provenant à la fois de l’'’intérieur et de l'’’extérieur. La collection des « Cahiers du Collège d'’’Europe » publie les résultats des recherches menées sur ces thèmes au Collège d'’’Europe, au sein de ses deux campus (Bruges et Varsovie). Focalisés sur l'Union européenne et le processus d'’’intégration, ces travaux peuvent être spécialisés dans les domaines des sciences politiques, du droit ou de l’'’économie, mais ils sont le plus souvent de nature interdisciplinaire. La collection vise à approfondir la compréhension de ces questions complexes et contribue ainsi au débat européen. French Studies of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries

This series publishes the latest research by teachers and researchers working in all the disciplines which constitute French and Francophone studies in this period, in the form of monographs, revised dissertations, collected papers and conference proceedings. Adhering to the highest academic standards, it provides a vehicle for established scholars with specialised research projects but also encourages younger academics who may be publishing for the first time. The editors take a broad view of French studies and intend to examine literary and cultural phenomena of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, excluding the Romantic movement, against their historical, political and social background in all the French-speaking countries. The editors also welcome work in comparative studies, and on adaptations, across languages or media.

Human Right Studies

The legal and political significance of human rights has increased enormously at the international and European levels. It has become increasingly clear that the respect and promotion of human rights must be at the centre of States and local communities' public policies and that human rights are the basis of civil society initiatives and movements. There is a large mechanism, at all levels of governance, monitoring the way in which States implement the obligations they have assumed towards each person under their sovereignty. The Italian Yearbook of Human Rights Series provides year by year, a dynamic and up-to date overview of the measures Italy has taken to adapt its legislation and policies in line with international human rights law and to comply with the commitments voluntarily assumed by the Italian Government at the international level. The book series thus intends to contribute to the continuous monitoring activity of the human rights situation in Italy undertaken at the local, national and international levels by the relevant intergovernmental and civil society actors. Each volume of this series surveys the activities carried out, during the year of reference, by the relevant national and local Italian actors, including governmental bodies, civil society organisations and universities. It also presents reports and recommendations that have been addressed to Italy by international monitoring bodies within the framework of the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the European Union. Finally, each Yearbook provides a selection of examples from international and national case law that cast light on Italy’s position vis-à-vis internationally recognised human rights. The Yearbook is edited by the Human Rights Centre of the University of Padua, in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair in Human Rights, Democracy and Peace of the same university, and with the support of the Region of Veneto. The Centre, established in 1982, carries out research and education following a global and interdisciplinary approach. It hosts the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on intercultural dialogue, human rights and multi-level governance.

Radical Animal Studies and Total Liberation

The Radical Animal Studies and Total Liberation book series branches out of Critical Animal Studies (a field co-founded by Anthony J. Nocella II) with the argument that criticism is not enough. Action must follow theory. This series demands that scholars are engaged with their subjects both theoretically and actively via radical, revolutionary, intersectional action for total liberation. Founded in anarchism, the series provides space for scholar-activists who challenge authoritarianism and oppression in their many daily forms. Radical Animal Studies and Total Liberation promotes accessible and inclusive scholarship that is based on personal narrative as well as traditional research, and it is especially interested in the advancement of interwoven voices and perspectives from multiple radical, revolutionary social justice groups and movements such as Black Lives Matter, Idle No More, Earth First!, the Zapatistas, ADAPT, prison abolition, LGBTTQQIA rights, disability liberation, Earth Liberation Front, Animal Liberation Front, political prisoners, radical transnational feminism, environmental justice, food justice, youth justice, and Hip Hop activism.

Rethinking Education

Rethinking education has never been more important. While there are many examples of good, innovative practice in teaching and learning at all levels, the conventional education mindset has proved largely resistant to pedagogic or systemic change, remaining preoccupied with the delivery of standardised packages in a standardised fashion, relatively unresponsive to the diversity of learners’ experiences and inclinations as well as to the personal perspectives of individual teachers. The challenge of our times in relation to education is to help transform that mindset. This series takes up this challenge. It re-examines perennial major issues in education and opens up new ones. It includes, but is not confined to, pedagogies for transforming the learning experience, any-time-any-place learning, new collaborative technologies, fresh understandings of the roles of teachers, schools and other educational institutions, providing for different learning styles and for students with special needs, and adapting to changing needs in a changing environment.

Speech Production and Perception

Speech production is a complex sensorimotor task that requires the coordination of numerous physically complex and very different biological systems. Furthermore, it is a sophisticated cognitive task that transmits information between speakers and listeners. Speech perception uses multi-modal information combining visible articulatory movements and audible acoustic properties in an adaptive way. Understanding the cognitive, motor and sensory mechanisms that underlie speech production and perception is a fascinating objective that requires interdisciplinary competences in various research areas such as linguistics, perception, psychology, cognition, neuroscience, motor control, biology, aerodynamics, acoustics, and biomechanics. The aim of this book series is to investigate the various mechanisms underlying speech production and perception. Each issue of this series will be devoted to a specific topic. This topic will be addressed from different, sometimes even controversial perspectives. Tutorials, up-to-date scientific papers, methodological reports and outstanding dissertations will be at the core of the series. The intended readers are graduate students and scientists from various research disciplines interested in speech production and perception. Scholars are welcome to submit suitable works to the editors. All articles in edited volumes undergo a double-blind peer review. All dissertations undergo a close reading by the series editors and authors will be invited to revise where required.

This series invites manuscripts on all genres and authors of twentieth-century British literature. The series seeks to provide fresh critical approaches to the established canon as well as new theoretical constructs which serve to expand the canon, including discourse analysis, narratology, film adaptation of a literary work, and imaging (discovering connections between literary and visual representation of reality). Scholars with cross-disciplinary interests are especially encouraged to submit their work. This series invites manuscripts on all genres and authors of twentieth-century British literature. The series „Varia Musicologica" treats a wide range of subjects from all fields of musicology. The editions, monographs and collections present the latest research from the music of the Middle Ages to new forms of music culture and adapt historical, cultural-historical, musical-aesthetic, biographical, analytical or source-critical methods. The volumes are presented in the languages English, German, French and Italian.
