Chapter Five Social Capital Analysis of the SRH: Trust, Networks, and Norms
Social capital in the SRH was examined through the use of in-depth interviews with managers from 33 SRHs and four officials at different levels of government. Three main themes about the dimensions of social capital, namely trust, networks, and norms were extracted from the review of the literature and the analysis of qualitative data. These themes concern the trust relationships and networks between SRHs and relevant sectors, and the shared values and regulations for the SRH. They reflect the social capital of the SRH at three levels: macro, meso, and micro. The meanings and importance of the three dimensions of social capital have been analyzed in detail in Chapter Three by referring to a rich body of literature. In this chapter, these three concepts will be elaborated separately upon using qualitative data first. Following that, the relationship between these concepts is discussed and a framework of social capital in the SRH is elicited.
