Zweisprachige Fachwörterbücher für das Sprachenpaar Deutsch und Litauisch: Bestandsaufnahme, Strukturen und Probleme
Abstract The past twenty-five years have seen considerable growth in the field of bilingual German and Lithuanian LSP lexicography. However, almost no scientific attention has been paid to the questions of the concept, scope, structure and usefulness of the LSP dictionaries. This paper aims at providing an overview of the existing German and Lithuanian LSP dictionaries with special attention to the dictionary structure. The analysis is based on 20 German-Lithuanian and Lithuanian-German LSP dictionaries and covers the following topics: dictionary titles, prefaces, several problems of dictionary macrostructure (such as the selection of headwords, presentation of multi-word-units) and microstructure (different information categories presented in the dictionary article). The critical examination of dictionary structure revealed several weaknesses. Among the shortcomings are the incorporation of words from everyday language into the small-sized specialized dictionaries, the vagueness of user information, which corresponds in many cases with confusion and lack of uniformity in the dictionary structures, and the failure to provide more and better linguistic information in the dictionary article. Only a few German and Lithuanian LSP dictionaries can claim to be something more than simple bilingual lists of special terms.
