Kulturdimensionen und Stereotype: Begriffserläuterungen und -operationalisierungen
The present article defines the term stereotype against the background of the concepts of attitude and culture. Attitudes have a cognitive component in that they involve knowledge about the attitude object. Part of the knowledge about foreign culture is influenced by stereotypes. Definitions of the concepts stereotype, attitude, prejudice, dimensions of culture, language choice, need for foreign language competence and need for knowledge about foreign culture are provided. Attention is also focused on the goals of questionnaire-based surveys on language needs, cultural traits and stereotyping as components of the project Intercultural communication, dimensions of culture and stereotypes.
