Rasim Yilmaz currently teaches economics and finance-related subjects in Turkey. His fields of interest comprise money and banking, the economy of China, and macroeconomics.
Günther Löschnigg is a Head of the Department of Labour Law and Law of Social Security at the University of Graz, Austria. His research interests include labor economics, social policy and public economics.

This book, the fourth volume of Studies on Balkan and Near Eastern Social Sciences, is a collection of empirical and theoretical research papers in the social sciences regarding the Balkans and the Near East written by researchers from several different universities and institutions. The book addresses economic, financial, political, historical, sociological, and international relations and health, cultural, and feminist issues in the region of the Balkan and the Near East. The book is aimed at educators, researchers, and students interested in the Balkan and Near Eastern countries.

Forewords

The book Studies on Balkan and Near Eastern Social Sciences-Volume IV is a collection of research articles on a wide range of social science issues written by researchers from several different universities and institutions.

The study by ALTUN ADA evaluates poverty in development terminology and focuses on the concept of unsustainable poverty. The panel study of ÖZEN and YALÇINKAYA KOYUNCU examines the relationship between globalization and poverty. ÖZEN and KOYUNCU empirically investigates the relationship between spending on education and productivity. The panel study by OKŞAK and KOYUNCU aims to investigate whether there is any relationship between female labor force participation and information and communication technologies. OKŞAK and YALÇINKAYA KOYUNCU empirically investigates the impact of institutional factors on shadow economy.

PAKİN-ALBAYRAKOĞLU evaluates the performance of European Union in conflict resolution in the case of North Macedonia. DOĞAN investigates historical roots, functions, duties and financial powers of local governments in Sweden. DOĞRUL investigates the impact of climate change on the agriculture of the world and Turkey. KILIÇARSLAN and ÇALLI examine whether lean hospital is a green hospital or not.

The study by AKTÜRK focuses on organizational justice in enterprises. ÖZYURT KAPTANOĞLU empirically examines the relationship between hope and business performance in the services sector. YAZICI and YAZICI analyzed the concept of sustainability in the case of German Mittelstand Companies. CIRANOĞLU analyzes enterprise resource planning systems as a strategic capability.

YAŞAR investigates whether the Classification and Regression Tree algorithm rules can be used to predict going concern audit opinions. ARSLAN, BORA and SOLAK scrutinize the mortgage banking applications in the world. The study by BAYRAM focuses on sharing economics and attempts to analyze conceptual dimensions and business models in sharing economy.

KARATAŞER examines protection of children in the Ottoman Empire. ÜNSAL reviews the development of the press regime and press in foreign language in the Ottoman Empire. KOÇ and ONHAN analyzed socio-economic conditions in the early years of the Turkish Republic.

The study of ÇÖGÜRCÜ assesses the macroeconomic indicators of Turkish Economy in 2018.

SARITAŞ empirically analyzes the effect of geopolitical risk on foreign direct investment inflows in the case of Turkey. By using the ratio analysis method, ARSLAN and BORA comparatively examine, the activities of state-owned deposit banks in Turkey in terms of profitability and productivity for the period of 1991 - 2002 and 2003 – 2015.
