Summary

The monograph The Preservation of Lithuanian Tatar Culture: Questions of Manuscript Textology analyses Lithuanian Tatar manuscripts using classical textological methods. It studies three popular texts: The Dialogue of Prophet Muhammad with Shaytan, the Miraj legend and The Journey of Sindbad 'the Turk'. These texts, found in kitabs, show linguistic diversity across copies. The Dialogue appears only in Slavic, legend Miraj is in Old Ottoman with Ruthenian/Polish translations or just Ruthenian/Polish and Sindbad refers to a Polish source rendered in Arabic script. The work publishes two previously unknown versions of The Dialogue and Miraj, while only fragments of Sindbad are included due to the source's availability.
