Summary

While much has been written about the significance of women’s patronage of manuscript production, we need more studies on the ways in which women contributed to the establishment and validation of dynastic lineage beyond books and marital alliances. With this volume, Christene D’Anca has contributed greatly to this need, arguing that women contributed much to the documentation and publicity of familial ancestry and female lineage by means of their patronage of a variety of artistic media, ranging from manuscripts to funerary arts which included objects besides gisants.
