Whatever Jan M. Ziolkowski has to say or what he has published, deserves our respect. He is one of the last giants of Medieval or Philological Studies, and this very much in the tradition of Erich Auerbach and Ernst Robert Curtius. The Chronos publishing house in Zürich is also not to be scoffed at. Although the present book consists of only 82 pages, we are invited to pay close attention to it and reflect closely on what Ziolkowski has to tell us in this new enterprise concerning the tenth-century Waltharius.
