Democracy, Governance and Development in India

Democracy ideally implies that all public decisions should be backed by the approval of all the people. But public opinion is often fractured between different groups, in which some groups, holding ‘majority’ articulate their interests. The Indian reality is further complicated because of divisions like caste, class, region, religion, language, gender etc. which move toward a lopsided democracy, governance and development.
However, despite several predicaments, India is also moving steadily towards a paradigm shift in democratic governance, especially in the age of globalisation based on massive development in Information Gateways, giving emphasis on “putting people first”.
This volume tries to unfold the theoretical and practical aspects of these issues not only from today’s perspective but also taking into consideration the invaluable insights of the Indian intellectual forefathers, like, Shri Chaitanya, Rabindranath Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi.
