Zusammenfassung

The Liber de ordine creaturarum is a seventh-century Irish treatise on cosmological and theological themes. Its authorship was originally attributed to Isidore of Seville on the basis of its use of other Isidorian texts. Twentieth-century research, however, especially by Manuel C. Diaz Y Diaz, has proved its Irish origin. Marina Smyth offers the first English translation of the text, from the critical edition of Diaz Y Diaz [Liber de Ordine Creaturarum: un anónimo irlandés del siglo VII (Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, 1972)]. The present text is also a reprinting with updates and expansion of Smyth’s translation published in 2011 [“The Seventh-Century Hiberno-Latin Treatise Liber de ordine creaturarum. A Translation,” Journal of Medieval Latin 21: 137–222].
