Summary
The Ottonian period of the 10th and 11th centuries was one of the most important for manuscript production, and Cologne was one of the greatest centers, along with Trier and Reichenau. The two volumes reviewed here come from a group of seven interdisciplinary volumes from a lengthy research study spearheaded by Klaus Gereon Beuckers on the “painterly group” (Malerische Gruppe), which represents some of the most important Ottonian manuscripts produced in Cologne.
