Zusammenfassung
This volume marks the completion by Herbert Zielinski of the project of revising the original Regesta Imperii volumes for the kingdoms of Italy and Burgundy under the Carolingians and their successors up through the mid-tenth and early eleventh century, respectively. Zielinski published the first three of these volumes, dealing with the Italian kingdom, in 1991, 1998, and 2006. Zielinksi then published the first “fascicle” of the Regesten, that is, the deeds of the rulers and major events, within the kingdoms of Burgundy in 2013. This initial volume focused on the kingdom of Lower Burgundy, comprising Provence and Cisjurane Burgundy with its centers at Lyon, Vienne, and Grenoble, in the period 855–947. The current volume, which officially is identified as the second “fascicle” of the Regesten of the kingdoms of Burgundy, focuses on the “Rudolfian” kingdom that emerged in the region between the Jura mountain range in the north and the western Alps in the south, with its center of gravity around Lake Geneva. Chronologically, the volume covers the period 888–1032 and the reigns of Rudolf I (888–912), Rudolf II (912–937), Conrad II (937–993), and Rudolf III (993–1032) after whose death the kingdom of Burgundy was acquired by Rudolf’s nephew, the German king Conrad II (1024–1039).
