Summary

Transformacions (1472–1482) is the title that Francesc Alegre gave to his translation of Ovid’s Metamorphoses. This new edition of Transformacions by Pellissa and Duran – the second edition after my own (Bescós 2019) – makes this medieval Catalan translation more accessible to non-specialist readers of Catalan literature. This is the principal achievement made possible by Garnier’s collection “Textes Littéraires du Moyen Âge” (“Série Ovidiana textes”). At the same time, this edition serves as an invaluable resource for scholars of medieval translation studies and for those exploring the tradition of the Metamorphoses. My comments will consider these merits alongside certain aspects that, in my view as editor of the previous edition, invite further discussion. These aspects are crucial for reassessing Alegre’s methodology and clarifying the role of Giovanni Bonsignori’s Italian version, Ovidio Metamorphoseos Vulgare (fourteenth century), as a hermeneutical tool.
