Technical Translation as Information Transfer

This book presents a systematic text-linguistic account of technical translation understood as a process of information transfer rather than formal equivalence. Focusing on English and Polish technical documentation, it addresses a significant gap in translation studies by integrating linguistic theory with empirical corpus-based analysis. The author examines parallel technical texts and translation corpora from core engineering domains to identify recurrent lexical, syntactic, pragmatic, and semiotic patterns. The study demonstrates that in technical translation informative function predominates over surface linguistic form, leading to regular and motivated structural divergence between source and target texts. Using an original methodological framework, the book offers both theoretical contributions and practical relevance for scholars, translators, and advanced students of technical communication and translation.
