The Nae Ionescu Phenomenon

One of the most influential Romanian thinkers of the interwar period, Nae Ionescu (1890-1940) was a philosopher, logician, mathematician, professor, and journalist. Through close textual analysis of his writing and lectures, this book embarks on an ambitious reappraisal of Ionescu’s career, which – as author Ion Dur demonstrates – can only be properly understood through the interplay of metaphysics, politics, and theology. The book addresses neglected elements of Ionescu’s career, including his theological thought and religious journalism, through a unifying hermeneutical lens. It also shows that Ionescu should be taken seriously as a theologian: his reflections on Orthodox Christianity, tradition and salvation form a coherent body of thought unfairly neglected by both philosophers and theologians.
