Studies in the History of Medicine

Studies in the History of Medicine provides an outlet for academic monographs devoted to both the social and the intellectual dimensions of the history of medicine. No limitations are imposed with respect to period or place, providing the approach adopted is analytical and historical. The series encourages investigations relating to previously neglected aspects of medicine and health care such as the history of nursing or other occupations associated with health care, case studies of particular disease and illness phenomena, health care in colonial and postcolonial settings, or indeed complementary medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine. The monographs inevitably evaluate the impact of modern high-technology medicine, but they also give appropriate weight to health care as it relates to the elderly, the mentally ill or other vulnerable social groups. Except in special circumstances the series will not include general biographies, histories of individual institutions and organisations, or studies of parochial interest. The monographs included in this series reflect the leading edge of research in the now well-established and still expanding field of medical history. La collection «　Convergences　», publiée avec l’appui d’un comité de lecture franco-allemand, réserve une place privilégiée à des ouvrages relatifs aux périodiques culturels et politiques considérés comme expressions de l’opinion publique, des mouvements d’idées, des mentalités ainsi que des phénomènes culturels et sociaux pris dans leur ensemble. «　Convergences　» est une collection d’esprit pluraliste et interdisciplinaire. Elle est vouée à la fois à la rencontre des méthodologies et des champs disciplinaires en lettres et sciences humaines ainsi qu’à l’étude des phénomènes d’interculturalité envisagés sous leurs formes les plus diverses. La collection est ouverte à des travaux qui concernent de manière prioritaire – mais non exclusive – l’aire culturelle germanique, les relations franco-allemandes et les transferts culturels.

"The aim of the series is to place migration and ethnicity in the context of both local and global history. The comprehensive approach demands that both old and new migration patterns are dealt with. The notion of the Immigration threat calls for a debate on hopes and limits of the cultural pluralism in Europe and in North America. The issues which are addressed in the book series include among other: inter-ethnic relations; changing patterns of Community building, new sense of belonging, religion and ethnicity nowadays, construction and reinvention of identity, and trans-nationalism. The series represents cultural studies in their broadest sense, embracing history, social studies, anthropology, and political studies. "

Studies in Philosophy, Culture and Contemporary Society

The aim of the series is to present classical philosophical thought and knowledge about problems and processes which take place in contemporary society. Such a perspective stems from the very relationship between philosophy and social sciences, which is both dynamic and reflexive. On the one hand, in its pure form as a ‘theoria,’ philosophical thought – even if sometimes abstracts from the social context – always remains an active observation that, in the long run, has an impact on social processes, and especially on social sciences. On the other hand, there is a reverse process in which social phenomena directly stimulate philosophical thought. As part of the series, we plan to publish monographs and volumes dealing with specific problems or social phenomena. Furthermore, the works of Polish societies, like The Polish Leibnizian Society and The Bachelard Society ‘Mythopaeia’, and others will be published.

ECHO est une collection dirigée par l'Institut d'archéologie et d'histoire ancienne (IAHA) de l'Université de Lausanne. Elle présente les travaux conduits dans le cadre de l'IAHA dans le domaine de l'histoire ancienne, de l'épigraphie et de la numismatique grecques et romaines, de l'archéologie, de la littérature, philologie et philosophie antiques. Des actes de colloques, des cycles de conférences, des thèses de doctorat, des travaux de jeunes chercheurs ou d'enseignants universitaires y prennent place, soulignant ainsi le caractère dynamique, multidisciplinaire et international des recherches menées à l'IAHA. Le volume 14 conclut la collection.
