Wor(l)ds of Change: Latin American and Iberian Literature

"This series deals with the relationship between literary creation and the social, political, and historical contexts in which it is produced. The types of volumes may include critical analyses of one or more works by one or several authors; critical editions of important works that may have been out of print for a long time, but which represent a major contribution to literature of the Iberian Peninsula or Latin America, English translations of important works, with critical introduction. Topics for Latin America include: studies of representative works of nineteenth- and twentieth-century thought, poetic portrayals of history, subgenres (fictionalization of the rural and urban social structures); historical novels; literature of exile; re-readings of colonial texts; new approaches to the figure of the Indian and other representatives of transculturation; women writers and other less studied authors. Topics for Spain and Portugal include: writing and nationalism in the Spanish State; bilingualism and the literary texts; censorship and exile; new and renewed genres such as autobiography and testimony; the formation of the avant-garde. Formal studies are expected to bear out the general contextual focus of the series. The use of recent developments in literary criticism is especially appropriate. The series also seeks to contribute to the understanding and accuracy of interpretation of the writing which has combined European elements with indigenous and African ones as well as to the understanding of the dynamics behind such major cultural issues as the formation of literary trends or subgenres, national identities, the effects of postcolonial status on literary imagination, the appearance and experience of women writers, and the relationships between post-modernism and Ibero-American writing. The series title is inclusive of literatures which are geographically, historically, or politically related and whose comparison is relevant to Spanish and Spanish American writing. This means those written in the other three languages of Spain, in Portugal, and Brazil. Comparative studies in which colonial or post colonial themes are prevalent may also be appropriate, if one of the literatures is in either Spanish or Portuguese. The breadth of the geographical area is intended to provide a forum for revealing and interpreting its multicultural aspects." Individual or collective, assumed or imposed, accepted or disputed, identities mark out the basic framework that root the human being in society. Language, literature, the creation of a shared memory, social formulas and the range of cultural expressions have contributed to articulating human life as a mixture of identities. Accordingly, no less than a sum of interdisciplinary perspectives, from different areas of research into the Humanities and Social Sciences, will supply us with the keys to understand the historical process and current reality of the human being in society. From this diversity, researchers using the prism of identity in any field of the Social Sciences and Humanities are invited to submit their works to the editorial board of the serie Identities. An interdisciplinary approach to the roots of the present. Individuelles ou collectives, assumées ou imposées, acceptées ou combattues, les identités configurent le premier cadre d’’enracinement de l’’être humain en société. La langue, la littérature, la création d’’une mémoire commune déterminée, les formules sociales et toutes les expressions culturelles ont contribué à articuler la vie humaine comme un treillis d’’identités. Seule une somme de perspectives interdisciplinaires contribuera donc à ce que, depuis les différents domaines de recherche des humanités et des sciences sociales, nous puissions trouver les clefs pour comprendre le parcours historique et la réalité présente de l’’être humain en société. À partir de cette diversité, les chercheurs adoptant le prisme de l’identité dans n’importe quel domaine des sciences humaines et sociales sont invités à soumettre leurs œœuvres au comité de rédaction de la collection Identités. Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique

Dans le panorama de la recherche et, plus particulièrement, de l’hispanisme, un nouveau paradigme privilégiant la prise en considération des échanges et de la circulation de modèles s’affirme. Cette nouvelle perspective permet l’émergence d’un nouveau champ d’études centré sur les relations transatlantiques, transnationales et intercontinentales ; elle met l’accent sur les échanges, les migrations et les passages qui se déclinent de différentes façons entre les cultures des deux côtés de l’Atlantique, depuis plus de cinq siècles. Plus que le paquebot de ligne destiné à la traversée régulière entre l’Europe et l’Amérique, le titre de cette Collection « Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique » évoque le roman homonyme de Witold Gombrowicz – où apparait justement le trait d’union –, les déambulations du protagoniste entre deux mondes, ainsi que les rapprochements entre des lieux bien différents d’une même réalité (la Pologne, où Gombrowicz est né, et l’Argentine, lieu de son séjour prolongé). La Collection « Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique » se veut un espace d’édition ouvert aux travaux qui privilégient cette approche de la littérature comme lieu transculturel par excellence, lieu de dialogue et de controverse entre différents types de discours, lieu, enfin, de tous les possibles, où s’élaborent de nouvelles pratiques de pensée et de création pour donner du sens à l’en-dehors qui l’entoure. En el panorama actual de la investigación, especialmente en el campo del hispanismo, se afirma la presencia de un nuevo paradigma que toma en cuenta, privilegiándolos, los intercambios y la circulación de modelos. Esta nueva perspectiva ha permitido la emergencia de un nuevo campo de estudios, centrado en las relaciones trasatlánticas, transnacionales e inter-continentales, que subraya la importancia de los intercambios, migraciones y pasajes que se declinan de diferentes modos entre las culturas de los dos lados del Atlántico, desde hace más de cinco siglos. El título de esta Colección «Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique» se propone evocar, más allá del vapor de línea que hace la travesía regular entre Europa y América, la novela homónima de Witold Gombrowicz – donde aparece justamente el guión –, y las deambulaciones del protagonista entre dos mundos así como los acercamientos posibles entre dos lugares diferentes de una misma realidad (Polonia, donde Gombrowicz nació y Argentina, lugar donde reside de manera prolongada). La Collection «Trans-Atlántico / Trans-Atlantique» es un espacio de publicación de obras que se centren en este tipo de abordaje de la literatura como lugar transcultural por excelencia, lugar de diálogo y de controversia entre diferentes tipos de discurso, lugar de todos los posibles donde se elaboran nuevas prácticas de conocimiento y de creación para dar sentido a lo que está afuera y que, sin embargo, la literatura comprende.

Hybris: Literatura y Cultura Latinoamericanas

Since Ancient Greece and the classical era, philosophers, artists and critics have delved into the relationships between literature and other arts. First it was painting and plastic arts –ut pictura poesis, by Simónides de Ceos and Horacio–, later on music, architecture, theatrical representation, sculpture and already, in modern and contemporary times, photography, cinema, television, the mass media. At present this vast and stimulating field of cultural and artistic hybridizations has been completed with new technologies and all "transmedia narratives", generating concepts and transversal actions attached to digital creation and new communicative realities: touch-media, cross-media, intermediality, transmediality, hypertextuality, multimodality, etc. This collection, Hybris: Latin American Literature and Culture, intends, on the one hand, to investigate in the diachronic sense that these relationships have been emerging in the literary and cultural field, understood as aesthetic, practical, leveling and technical borrowing parameters between arts and, therefore the other, is to reflect from a philosophical, social, cultural and theoretical perspective on the possibilities offered by such hybridizations, always within a Latin American context. In classical mythology, Hybris was the goddess of excess, insolence, the absolute absence of moderation, and evoked the need to go beyond limits. This new concept of Hybris intends to insist on the mythological marks of transgression, erasing borders between the arts, shaking the tendency to subdivision and containment and, at the same time, it also demandings identification with the Latin term hybrida, which alludes to the racial or cultural mixing. Hybridization and symbiosis between arts will therefore be the outlines and contexts in which these studies will be invested. Desde la Antigua Grecia y la época clásica, filósofos, artistas y críticos han profundizado en las relaciones entre la literatura y otras artes. Primero fue la pintura y artes plásticas –ut pictura poesis, de Simónides de Ceos y Horacio–, más adelante la música, la arquitectura, la representación teatral, la escultura y ya, en la época moderna y contemporánea, la fotografía, el cine, la televisión, los mass media. En la actualidad este vasto y estimulante campo de hibridaciones culturales y artísticas se ha completado con las nuevas tecnologías y todas las "narrativas transmedia", generando conceptos y actuaciones transversales anejas a la creación digital y a las nuevas realidades comunicativas: touch-media, cross-media, intermedialidad, transmedialidad, hipertextualidad, multimodalidad, etc. Esta colección, Hybris: Literatura y Cultura Latinoamericanas, pretende, por un lado, indagar en el sentido diacrónico que estas relaciones han ido perfilando en el campo literario y cultural entendidos como parámetros estéticos, prácticos, de nivelación y préstamos técnicos entre artes y, por otro, reflexionar desde una perspectiva filosófica, social, cultural y teórica sobre las posibilidades que ofrecen tales hibridaciones, siempre dentro de un contexto latinoamericano. En la mitología clásica, Hybris era la diosa de la desmesura, la insolencia, la ausencia absoluta de moderación, y evocaba la necesidad de traspasar límites. Este nuevo concepto de Hybris pretende insistir en las marcas mitológicas de la transgresión, borrando fronteras entre las artes, sacudiendo la tendencia a la parcelación y a la contención y, a la vez, reclama también la identificación con el término latino hybrida, que alude a la mezcla de sangre. Hibridación y simbiosis entre artes serán, por tanto, los contornos y contextos en los que se imbricarán estos estudios.
