Until the publication of volume 21 the title of the series was "Polish Contemporary Philosophy and Philosophical Humanities". The series aspires to present a wide and relevant overview of best Polish works in philosophy and philosophical parts of the major fields of the humanities: political and social sciences, history, religious studies or what is named in Poland "the history of ideas". The subsequent editions of books within this series are either re-editions of the works previously published in non-Polish versions, or new translations from Polish. Some books contain extended works, other ones provide collections of smaller papers. Some of the authors presented in the series are widely acknowledged and regarded to be the "classics" of Polish intellectual life in the second half of the 20th Century, others are recognized as outstanding professors today. The quality and fame of the works and authors presented in the series are the only criteria for inclusion. The series is open to all streams of Polish philosophy: from analytical philosophy, through phenomenology and hermeneutics, to existential or religious philosophies. Also the word "philosophy" should be understood very widely in this case.

Terrorism Studies

This series is intended to promote a deeper understanding of the root causes of and potential solutions to the global issues related to terrorism. The series welcomes publications of scholars who specialize in social and political philosophy, ethics, religious studies, political theory and political science. Those scholars with other disciplinary expertise are welcome to submit proposals as well. Contributions to the series may deal with particular, narrow-range problems and/or synthetic, interdisciplinary issues related to the issue of terrorism. Likewise, the publications may refer to both systematic problems and more practical considerations. Especially welcome are scholarly works that deal with the subject of terrorism in new and innovative ways. This series welcomes both individually authored and collaboratively authored books and monographs as well as conference proceedings and edited collections of essays.

Histories of Religious Pluralism

This new book series will show that a critical understanding of religious pluralism in the past is of vital significance to debates about identity, diversity, and co-existence in the present. Studies will focus on using a historical perspective to address one of three key themes in the period between 1500 and 2000 CE: intra-religious pluralism; inter-religious pluralism; or, religion, secularism, and the nation state. Within this frame of reference, constructive contrasts between a wide range of foci, approaches, and viewpoints will be keenly encouraged. The series will champion established lines of research in political, social, cultural, and gendered histories of religious pluralism – e.g. studies on liberty, persecution, and toleration – whilst also encouraging novel ways of transcending a scholarly discourse which is dominated by ideologies and methodologies derived from the social sciences – e.g. by studies on the theological and literary dimensions of conflict, cohesion, and community. The series will embrace scholarship on subjects from any part of the world. European and extra-European perspectives that complement traditional Anglo-American thinking are particularly welcome. As the ‘global turn’ continues to energize new types of enquiry, the series will also seek to advance studies of indigenous and displaced religious groups. With this scope there is a reflexive acknowledgement that the rationale for and defining concepts of the series are grounded in a ‘western’ intellectual tradition; however, this should serve as a challenge to prospective authors to pioneer new dialogues between ‘western’ and ‘non-western’ approaches and foci, or even surpass the dichotomy altogether. An emphasis will be given to promoting the best research of early career scholars from around the world, whilst also giving more established academics the opportunity to develop their multimedia policy-orientated work – e.g. podcasts, blogs, talks, press briefings, reports for thinktanks, governments, and public agencies etc. – into a book that would engage peers and students alike. Religious and theological reflection has often been confined to the realm of the private, the personal or the Church. In Europe this restriction of religion and theology can be traced back to the Enlightenment and has had long-lasting and pernicious consequences for the understanding of religious faith and society. On the one hand, there has been a rise in religious fundamentalisms around the globe, while, on the other hand, so-called advanced societies are constructed mainly along economic, pragmatic and rationalistic lines. Added to this is the reality that religious faith is increasingly lived out in pluralistic and multi-faith contexts with all the challenges and opportunities this offers to denominational religion. This series explores what it means to be religious in such contexts. It invites scholarly contributions to themes including patterns of secularisation, postmodern challenges to religion, and the relation of faith and culture. From a theological perspective it seeks constructive re-interpretations of traditional Christian topics – including God, creation, salvation, Christology, ecclesiology, etc. in a way that makes them more credible for today. It also welcomes studies on religion and science, and on theology and the arts. The series publishes monographs, comparative studies, interdisciplinary projects, conference proceedings and edited books. It attracts well-researched, especially interdisciplinary, studies which open new approaches to religion or focus on interesting case studies. The language of the series is English.

This series addresses a new need. The constitution of many contemporary communities is radically diverse, and the need is to think anew about them. Through a mixture of edited collections and single-authored volumes, the series aims both to examine how radical diversity has arisen in the religious and political constitution of society and to analyse the implications for the future so as to help ensure the harmonious relations between communities and the best practice of government. Studies in the History of Religious and Political Pluralism will evaluate new trends and theories and make available the findings of empirical research which demonstrates the nature of the pluralistic world in which we live.

The Liturgical Studies series provides a forum for scholars of matters related to the theory and practice of ritual and worship. Titles in this series may address liturgical history, liturgical theology, ritual studies, or interdisciplinary writing and research centered on topics related to liturgical aspects of both secular and religious culture. Approaches may be multi-disciplinary, concentrated in a single aspect of liturgical studies, or focused on performance theory in worship. Included in this series are discussions addressing either the worship practices of one religious tradition or inter-faith liturgical studies research. This series invites submissions from scholars working in the field of feminist theory, with a particular interest in religion, culture and society. The series will focus on central issues and themes debated within contemporary feminist theory (1960-present) and how those discourses relate to the study of religion as a cultural, social and historical phenomenon. For example, a feminist theoretical analysis of world religions, religious ethics, cultural movements, history of religions, gender structures in all dimensions of religious traditions would be welcome. Scholars working in related fields, such as philosophy, hermeneutics and social theory with a major interest in how these disciplines relate to the study of religion, are also invited to contribute manuscripts. Cultural Identity Studies

This series publishes new research into relationships and interactions between culture and identity, broadly conceived. Studies relating to intercultural or transcultural identities are particularly welcome, as the series is the publishing project of the Intercultural Studies research group at Dalarna University, Sweden. The series embraces research into the roles of linguistic, social, political, psychological, literary, audiovisual, religious and/or cultural aspects in the processes of individual and collective identity formation. Given the nature of the field, interdisciplinary and theoretically diverse approaches are encouraged. The Middle East is understood in the broadest sense associated with the term, and is reflective of widely shared socio-religious patterns, histories, and heritages. Globalization, which has led to increased possibilities of travel and interconnectivity, underpins the growth of pilgrimages, as does the contemporary notion that pilgrimages are framed as journeys of meaning constructed by pilgrims. Despite universal exemplars of pilgrimage, there is a dearth of multidisciplinary, and multilingual, literature on the topic. This series aims to fuse multiple streams of pilgrimage discourse and provide a forum for formerly disparate conversations on the pilgrimage phenomenon. Proposals are welcome for monographs and edited collections that explore the intersection of pilgrimage with topics such as identity, heritage, ethnicity and genealogy, political power, nationalism, gender and sexuality, architecture, law, technology, climate and geography, and health and wellbeing. Additionally, manuscripts that represent new perspectives on existing pilgrimage sites and historical narratives are welcome and contributions from non-Anglo authors will be considered. Travel Writing Across the Disciplines

The recent critical attention devoted to travel writing enacts a logical transition from the ongoing focus on autobiography, subjectivity, and multiculturalism. Travel extends the inward direction of autobiography to consider the journey outward and intersects provocatively with studies of multiculturalism, gender, and subjectivity. Whatever the journey's motive--tourism, study, flight, emigration, or domination--journey changes both the country visited and the self that travels. Travel Writing Across the Disciplines welcomes studies from all periods of literature on the theory and/or pedagogy of travel writing from various disciplines, such as social history, cultural theory, multicultural studies, anthropology, sociology, religious studies, literary analysis, and feminist criticism. The volumes in this series explore journey literature from critical and pedagogical perspectives and focus on travel as metaphor in cultural practice. «Religions and Discourse» explores religious language in the major world faiths from various viewpoints, including semiotics, pragmatics and cognitive linguistics, and reflects on how it is situated within wider intellectual and cultural contexts. In particular a key issue is the role of figurative speech. Many fascinating metaphors originate in religion e.g. revelation as a ‘garment’, apostasy as ‘adultery’, loving kindness as the ‘circumcision of the heart’. Every religion rests its specific orientations upon symbols such as these, to name but a few. The series strives after the interdisciplinary approach that brings together such diverse disciplines as religious studies, theology, sociology, philosophy, linguistics and literature, guided by an international editorial board of scholars representative of the aforementioned disciplines. Though scholarly in its scope, the series also seeks to facilitate discussions pertaining to central religious issues in contemporary contexts. The series will publish monographs and collected essays of a high scholarly standard.

Queering Paradigms is a series of peer-reviewed edited volumes and monographs presenting challenging and innovative developments in Queer Theory and Queer Studies from across a variety of academic disciplines and political spheres. Queer in this context is understood as a critical disposition towards the predominantly binarist and essentialising social, intellectual, political, and cultural paradigms through which we understand gender, sexuality, and identity. Queering denotes challenging and transforming not just heteronormativity, but homonormativity as well, and pushing past the binary axes of homo- and hetero-sexuality. In line with the broad inter- and trans-disciplinary ethos of queer projects generally, the series welcomes contributions from both established and aspiring researchers in diverse fields of studies including political and social science, philosophy, history, religious studies, literary criticism, media studies, education, psychology, health studies, criminology, and legal studies. The series is committed to advancing perspectives from outside of the ‘Global North’. Further, it will publish research that explicitly links queer insights to specific and local political struggles, which might serve to encourage the uptake of queer insights in similar contexts. By cutting across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries in this way, the series provides a unique contribution to queer theory. The Series Editor: Professor B.
