"EUROSINICA is a book series for monographs of various thematic focuses, sharing the goal of studying culture and literature in contemporary or historical contexts. The series, under the imprint of Peter Lang, was founded in 1984 by the German sinologist Günther Debon (1921–2005) and the Canadian comparatist Adrian Hsia (1938–2010); so far, thirteen books have been published. While the founding editors placed the emphasis on the transfer processes of classical literary works and motifs between cultures, the continuation of their work requires new approaches. Rather than operate within the conceptual framework of “cultural dialogue” between an East and a West viewed as distinct entities, the series editors tend to a view of cultures in contact. EUROSINICA is accordingly open for studies and interpretation of authors, personalities, genres and individual works committed to an understanding of humanity as a common source of values which, rather than be impeded by cultural, linguistic or ethnic disparity, are being reshaped and reinvented in different settings. From the basic concept the series’ founders have contributed, we will carry on the approach to literature, the arts and history as transnational narratives emerging out of distinct contextualization and relying on as well as contributing to both the European and the Sinic cultural spheres. We explicitly welcome well-argued innovative interpretations of classical works, as we do historical and translation studies. At a time of ongoing global changes of aesthetic and critical paradigms, EUROSINICA does not intend to propose the East-West-paradigm as a last refuge for intellectual cultural conservatism, but rather envisages new critical approaches to the sporadic process of aesthetic and historical interactions (“contacts”) between formerly allegedly “separated” cultural spheres. For Authors EUROSINICA expects to publish between one and two volumes annually and aims for a balance between studies of contemporary or ancient focus. It thereby seeks to counter the trend of separating research on classical and modern issues. EUROSINICA will consider manuscripts in European languages. In line with Lewin’s (1951) dictum «Nothing is as practical as a good theory» this book series promotes the transfer from science to practice in the German-speaking area by offering foundational research with comments from practitioners. Preference is given to contributions that present innovative solutions for social and societal problems. The quality of the publications in this book series will be peer-reviewed by the editors and the members of the scientific advisory board. The series publishes contributions in German and English. Europäische Kinder- und Jugendliteratur im interkulturellen Kontext

This series includes Ph.D. dissertations, monographs, anthologies and conference proceedings on literature for children and young adults dealing with cultural diversity in Europe. It aims to be a scientific platform for discussions about literature for children and young adults as an international and supra-national medium of cultural transfer and wants to contribute to the current discourse on the consequences and perspectives of migration. This series intends to offer a discussion forum to experienced specialists as well as to young researchers. A large spectrum of theoretical approaches is welcome within the framework of this series: comparative studies as well as publications on the history of ideas, critiques of contemporary civilisation, socio-psychological perspectives, literary theory and translation studies. English, German and French are accepted as languages of publication. European Connections

European Connections: Studies in Comparative Literature, Intermediality and Aesthetics is a peer-reviewed series that publishes innovative research monographs, edited volumes as well as translations of key theoretical works. The series focuses on the literary and artistic relations that have shaped and continue to shape European cultures across national, linguistic and media boundaries, leading to vibrant new forms of artistic creation and aesthetic expression. It also wishes to explore relations with non-European cultures with a view to fostering more equitable models of cultural exchange and transfer. The series promotes comparative, intermedial and interdisciplinary approaches, whether studies of specific writers, filmmakers and artists; critical re-evaluations of historical periods (from the medieval to the ultra-contemporary) and movements; or wider theoretical reflections within the fields of comparative literature, intermediality studies and aesthetics. L’Allemagne dans les relations internationales / Deutschland in den internationalen Beziehungen

Située au cœur de l’Europe, l’Allemagne occupe une position clé sur la scène internationale et représente un enjeu majeur pour ses voisins. C’est pourquoi cette collection entend rassembler des études portant sur la ou les Allemagnes dans ses rapports aux Autres du début du XXe siècle à aujourd’hui. Collection d’histoire et de relations internationales ouvertes aux disciplines proches à démarche historique, elle rassemble des ouvrages analysant les évolutions inter- et transnationales entre les États et les sociétés. Elle est ouverte aux approches comparées, croisées, connectées et aux processus d’échanges dans les champs politique, culturel, économique, scientifique, sociétal ou mémoriel. La collection s’articule principalement autour de monographies et d’ouvrages collectifs, éventuellement de l’édition scientifique de documents. Une attention spéciale sera accordée aux travaux des jeunes chercheurs et aux projets menés dans le cadre de coopérations franco-allemandes ou multilatérales. Les ouvrages s’adressent aux enseignants, chercheurs et étudiants, mais aussi à toutes celles et ceux qui s’intéressent à l’Allemagne contemporaine. Im Herzen Europas nimmt Deutschland eine Schlüsselstellung auf der internationalen Bühne ein und stellt zugleich eine Herausforderung für seine Nachbarn dar. New approaches and concepts deriving from Cognitive Sciences are brought into dialogue with classical issues in the study of culture, addressing the analysis of cultural and literary transfer and change. Books are published in English, Portuguese and German. Prior to publication, the quality of the work published in this series is reviewed by both editors of the series as well as by external referees. Die Reihe passagem bietet kulturwissenschaftliche Studien im Grenzbereich der Disziplinen zwischen Germanistik, Romanistik, Komparatistik und Geschichte, aber auch über die Grenzen der Geisteswissenschaften hinaus. Insbesondere Ansätze aus den Kognitionswissenschaften werden für die Kulturwissenschaften fruchtbar gemacht und damit auch ein weites Feld von Transferprozessen zwischen den Kulturen und Literaturen. Die Reihe erscheint in portugiesischer, englischer und deutscher Sprache. Die Qualität der in dieser Reihe erscheinenden Arbeiten wird vor der Publikation durch beide Herausgeber der Reihe sowie externe Gutachter geprüft.

CGL-Studies

Die CGL-Studies versammeln Forschungsergebnisse zur Geschichte der Landschaftsarchitektur und Gartenkunst sowie zu Fragen der modernen Landschaftsarchitektur. Im Spannungsfeld von Geschichtsforschung einerseits und zeitgenössischer Praxis andererseits werden neue Ansätze und Methoden entwickelt und erörtert. Dabei richtet sich der Blick auf die zeitgenössische Landschaftsarchitektur sowie die Geschichte von Gartenkunst und Gartendenkmalpflege. In diesem Kontext wird den Interferenzen zwischen Landschaftsarchitektur, Städtebau und Architektur ein besonderes Interesse zuteil. Die ersten Bände, Ergebnisse zweier durch die Klosterkammer Hannover geförderter Promotionsstipendien, behandeln die Gartenkultur der norddeutschen Frauenklöster und Damenstifte sowie den Transfer gartenkulturellen Wissens von China in die europäische Gartenkunst. In einem weiteren Band werden die Ergebnisse des Workshops «Naturschutz und Demokratie» veröffentlicht, der vom Bundesminister für Umwelt, Naturschutz und Reaktorsicherheit gefördert wurde. Folgepublikationen sind derzeit geplant zu modernen Formen der Landschaftswahrnehmung und ihrer Bedeutung für die Landschaftsarchitektur sowie zum Thema «Gärten und Parks im Leben der jüdischen Bevölkerung nach 1933».

Deutsche Sprache und Kultur in Mittel-, Ost- und Südosteuropa

Die Reihe widmet sich der deutschen Sprache und Kultur mit einem sprachwissenschaftlichen, literatur- und kulturwissenschaftlichen sowie sprachdidaktischen Schwerpunkt. Sie soll in besonderer Weise ein Sprachrohr für Mittel-, Ost- und Südeuropa sein und den vergleichenden interkulturellen Aspekt in Publikationen aus und über diese Region berücksichtigen. Die Mitglieder des Herausgeberteams sind selbst in diesen Regionen verortet. Durch die Initiierung　internationaler Tagungen und editorischer Kooperationen haben sie den wissenschaftlichen Transfer mit　Fachvertretern　diverser germanistischer Standorte gefördert. Die Reihe richtet sich vor allem an Autorinnen und Autoren, die regional und transnational zu einem wissenschaftlichen Austausch beitragen wollen.

The essence of the work proposed in this book series concerns mainly the biopsychological foundations of life in educational and health related fields. The world of the psychology of the Islamic cultural area, for example, is largely unknown for the western readers up to now. Therefore, concepts and research methods from „western" psychology, which are taught and researched around the world, are transferred and applied to questions, to contexts of the Islamic cultural area and to the related Islamic Psychology. Through the contributions in this book series, the content-related concepts, the research approaches and the ways of thinking of the Islamic psychology in educational and health related psychological fields become visible and known for all the western psychologists and researchers. In this way it is possible to create a substantial exchange in which all directions of psychology can contribute to the further development of the discipline of psychology as a whole. Therefore, concepts and research methods from „western" psychology, which are taught and researched around the world, are transferred and applied to questions, to contexts of the Islamic cultural area and to the related Islamic Psychology. Through the contributions in this book series, the content-related concepts, the research approaches and the ways of thinking of the Islamic psychology in educational and health related psychological fields become visible and known for all the western psychologists and researchers. In this way it is possible to create a substantial exchange in which all directions of psychology can contribute to the further development of the discipline of psychology as a whole. Social and cultural processes are eminently historical. Historical research and historical studies, themselves embedded in historical contexts, meet this fact by reconstructing historical processes and by making offers for their analysis and interpretation. A series of new phenomena and transformations are currently challenging the exploration of education and formation and their different institutionalized forms. Among them, the process of dense globalization, increasing cultural transfers and entanglements, the scarcity of natural resources, the accelerated pace of the transformation of media environments and novel forms of individualization are some of the most pressing. These phenomena and transformations pose new questions for historical research in education. The book series "Studia Educationis Historica" offers historical studies that address these challenges with traditional and innovative historical research methods. The series offers analyses on the history of education in different countries as well as comparative and international studies. German, English, and Spanish are the languages of the book series. The term transcription acknowledges that all cultures engage in acts of translating and transforming performed, spoken, written, or digitalized languages, images, and sounds from one medium into another; it also refers, more specifically, to processes of encoding and transferring genetic information. German Visual Culture

German Visual Culture invites research on German art across different periods, geographical locations, and political contexts. Books in the series engage with aesthetic and ideological continuities as well as ruptures and divergences between individual artists, movements, systems of art education, art institutions, and cultures of display. Challenging scholarship that interrogates and updates existing orthodoxies in the field is desirable. A guiding question of the series is the impact of German art on critical and public spheres, both inside and outside the German-speaking world. Reception is thus conceived in the broadest possible terms, including both the ways in which art has been perceived and defined as well as the ways in which modern and contemporary German artists have undertaken visual dialogues with their predecessors or contemporaries. Issues of cultural transfer, critical race theory and related postcolonial analysis, feminism, queer theory, and other interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged, as are studies on production and consumption, especially the art market, pioneering publishing houses, and the ‘little magazines’ of the avant-garde. All proposals for monographs and edited collections in the history of German visual culture will be considered, although English will be the language of all contributions. Submissions are subject to rigorous peer review. The series will be promoted through the series editor’s Research Forum for German Visual Culture (https://www.eca.ed.ac.uk/research/research-forum-german-visual-culture), which he founded at the University of Edinburgh in 2011, and which has involved various symposia and related publications, all connected to an international network of Germanist scholars.

Race and Resistance Across Borders in the Long Twentieth Century

This series focuses on the history and culture of activists, artists and intellectuals who have worked within and against racially oppressive hierarchies in the twentieth century and beyond, and who have then sought to define and to achieve full equality once those formal hierarchies have been overturned. It explores the ways in which such individuals - writers, scholars, campaigners and organizers, ministers, and artists and performers of all kinds - locate their resistance within a global context and forge connections with each other across national, linguistic, regional and imperial borders. Disseminating the latest interdisciplinary scholarship on the history, literature and culture of anti-racist movements in Africa, the Caribbean, the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America, the series foregrounds, through a cross-disciplinary approach, the transnational and intercultural nature of these resistance movements. The series embraces a range of themes, including but not limited to antislavery, intellectual and literary networks, emigration and immigration, anti-imperialism, church-based and religious movements, civil rights, citizenship and identity, Black Power, resistance strategies, women's movements, cultural transfer, white supremacy and anti-immigration, hip hop and global justice movements. The series is affiliated with the Race and Resistance Research Programme at The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities (TORCH), University of Oxford. Proposals are invited for sole- and joint-authored monographs as well as edited collections. The periodical press played a key role in cultural exchange, public debate, and knowledge transfer. Periodicals became essential elements in the construction and development of a communication network that enabled an open dialogue among the learned people of Europe and the circulation of knowledge among an increasingly wide readership. La collana è dedicata allo studio, in una prospettiva interdisciplinare, dei periodici e dei giornali pubblicati in Europa dal XVII secolo a oggi. La stampa periodica giocò un ruolo chiave nello scambio culturale, nel dibattito pubblico e nella trasmissione della conoscenza. I periodici furono infatti essenziali per la costruzione e lo sviluppo di una rete di comunicazione che consentì un dialogo aperto tra le persone di cultura in tutta Europa e la circolazione del sapere all’interno di un pubblico di lettori sempre più ampio. Die periodische Presse spielte eine Schlüsselrolle für den kulturellen Austausch, die öffentliche Debatte und den Wissenstransfer. Periodika wurden zu wesentlichen Elementen im Aufbau und in der Entwicklung eines Kommunikations-netzes, das einen offenen Dialog zwischen den Gelehrten Europas und die Verbreitung von Wissen unter einer breiteren Leserschaft ermöglichte.
