The Old Greek verb theaomai – looking both with the mind’s eye and the actual eye – since the very beginning of European theatre suggests a close relation between theatre and theory. Within the act of perception the spectators, theates, relate the things they hear and see to the site of their memory and psyche. Of all the arts those who reflect the process of perception in the aesthetic form itself are performative arts. This series publishes interdisciplinary studies between theatre- and media studies as well as studies on the visual arts that analyse the social and subjective potential of the aesthetic process of looking, hearing, and reading. Das altgriechische Verb theaomai – «mit dem geistigen wie konkreten Auge schauen» – legt seit den Anfängen des europäischen Theaters eine enge Beziehung von Theater und Theorie nahe. Diese wird vom Zuschauer theates über den Akt seiner Wahrnehmung geknüpft: er verbindet konkretes Hören und Sehen mit dem Schauplatz seines Gedächtnisses und seiner Psyche. Künste, die diesen Prozess des Wahrnehmens in der ästhetischen Form selbst reflektieren, somit Denken und sinnliche Teilnahme des Rezipienten fordern, um die Sinnpotentialitäten des ästhetischen Gegenstands zu realisieren, sind performative Künste. Die Reihe veröffentlicht interdisziplinäre Studien im Übergang von Theater-, Kunst- und Medienwissenschaft, die das gesellschafts- und subjektkritische Potential des Prozesses ästhetischer Zuschauer-, Hörer- oder Leserwahrnehmung untersuchen.

The concepts of Ireland and ‘Irishness’ are in constant flux in the wake of an ever-increasing reappraisal of the notion of cultural and national specificity in a world assailed from all angles by the forces of globalisation and uniformity. Reimagining Ireland interrogates Ireland'’s past and present and suggests possibilities for the future by looking at Ireland’'s literature, culture and history and subjecting them to the most up-to-date critical appraisals associated with sociology, literary theory, historiography, political science and theology. In today’'s globalised society, translation and interpreting are gaining visibility and relevance as a means to foster communication and dialogue in increasingly multicultural and multilingual environments. Practised since time immemorial, both activities have become more complex and multifaceted in recent decades, intersecting with many other disciplines. New Trends in Translation Studies is an international series with the main objectives of promoting the scholarly study of translation and interpreting and of functioning as a forum for the translation and interpreting research community. This series publishes research on subjects related to multimedia translation and interpreting, in their various social roles. It is primarily intended to engage with contemporary issues surrounding the new multidimensional environments in which translation is flourishing, such as audiovisual media, the internet and emerging new media and technologies. It sets out to reflect new trends in research and in the profession, to encourage flexible methodologies and to promote interdisciplinary research ranging from the theoretical to the practical and from the applied to the pedagogical. New Trends in Translation Studies publishes translation- and interpreting-oriented books that present high-quality scholarship in an accessible, reader-friendly manner. The series embraces a wide range of publications – monographs, edited volumes, conference proceedings and translations of works in translation studies which do not exist in English. The editor, Professor Jorge Díaz-Cintas, welcomes proposals from all those interested in being involved with the series. The working language of the series is English, although in exceptional circumstances works in other languages can be considered for publication. Proposals dealing with specialised translation, translation tools and technology, audiovisual translation and the field of accessibility to the media are particularly welcomed. Women, Gender and Sexuality in German Literature and Culture welcomes proposals for monographs and rigorously edited essay collections focusing on the work of women and LGBTQ+ creators as well as the representation of women, gender and/or sexuality in literature, media and culture. The series contributes to efforts to broaden the German-language canon by publishing pioneering studies of relatively unknown writers, artists and filmmakers and cutting-edge assessments of more established figures. Cultural History and Literary Imagination

This series promotes critical inquiry into the relationship between the literary imagination and its cultural, intellectual or political contexts. The series encourages the investigation of the role of the literary imagination in cultural history and the interpretation of cultural history through literature, visual culture and the performing arts. Contributions of a comparative or interdisciplinary nature are particularly welcome. Individual volumes might, for example, be concerned with any of the following: The mediation of cultural and historical memory, The material conditions of particular cultural manifestations, The construction of cultural and political meaning, Intellectual culture and the impact of scientific thought, The methodology of cultural inquiry, Intermediality, Intercultural relations and practices. Acceptance is subject to advice from our editorial board, and all proposals and manuscripts undergo a rigorous peer review assessment prior to publication. New International Studies in Applied Ethics is a series based at Leeds Metropolitan University and associated with Virginia Theological Seminary. The series examines the ethical implications of selected areas of public life and concern. Subjects considered will include, but are not limited to, medicine, peace studies, international sport and higher education. Individual volumes may also be useful to those confronted with the issues discussed in their daily lives. Studies in international relations, particularly historical, stem from the changing face of diplomacy over time, where the deeper forces at play, such as those once defined by Pierre Renouvin, are taken into account. Individual states, and those who define and implement their policies, are placed at the heart of global life. According to this concept, countries pursue a course of action by taking advantage of the most diverse range of tools they can rely on, such as economic or cultural resources, which act alone or interact with others. The study of international relations grew into different fields of analysis during the 20th century, but it is now subject to a new scrutiny in this era of globalisation. This concept, which coincides with the development of neo-liberal analysis since the 1980s, reveals a new awareness about the increased number of actors NGOs and multinational companies, for example but also the large autonomy they enjoy when it comes to action. This series aims to portray these new perspectives and their impact on current research. Without casting aside studies in international relations that focus on states, it tries to better understand the diverse range of factors that play out on the world stage and how they relate to each other from the high stakes in sport to the use of colonial memory. This series targets academics and analysts who wish to apply 20th century history to contemporary thought. L’étude des relations internationales, tout particulièrement dans le champ historique, est issue d’une histoire diplomatique largement rénovée à travers la prise en compte des forces profondes telles que les a jadis définies Pierre Renouvin. Elle place les États et ceux qui sont chargés de définir et de mettre en œuvre leur politique au cœur de la vie internationale. Selon cette conception, les États conduisent leur action en jouant sur la palette des moyens les plus divers sur lesquels ils peuvent s’appuyer, tels que l’économie ou la culture, et qui agissent ou interagissent les uns par rapport aux autres. La démultiplication des champs d’analyse de la vie internationale se développe ainsi tout au long du XXe siècle, mais est l’objet d’un nouveau regard en ces temps de mondialisation. Cette dernière, contemporaine du développement des analyses néo-libérales depuis les années 1980, témoigne tout à la fois de la prise de conscience de la démultiplication des acteurs en présence – ONG, entreprises multinationales par exemple – et de la large autonomie d’action de ces multiples acteurs. La collection « enjeux internationaux » se veut représentative de ces perspectives renouvelées et de leur impact sur les recherches actuelles. Sans abandonner l’étude des relations internationales centrées sur les États, elle cherche à mieux appréhender la diversité des segments qui composent le champ international et le mode de relations entre ces derniers : de l’enjeu que constitue le sport à celui de l’usage de la mémoire coloniale. Elle s’adresse ainsi aux universitaires et analystes souhaitant interroger les grandes thématiques du siècle dernier au service d’une réflexion sur le présent. The Ius, Lex et Res Publica. Studies in Law, Philosophy and Political Cultures series explores a wide range of topics, especially within the Polish legal and socio-political framework. This new series of monographs focuses chiefly on topics related to current legal and socio-political tendencies, comparative studies, philosophical, legal, and political theory, psychology and sociology of law, and other subjects that would be of interest to law practitioners and scholars conducting research in the field of social sciences. Intending to promote interdisciplinary and multidimensional scholarship, the Ius, Lex et Res Publica series encourages an innovative approach to classical studies in national-oriented, European, and international matters. In addition, this series will seek to provide a high academic standard in addressing recent and fundamental legal, philosophical and socio-political problems. Single-author publications, collaborative studies, and collections of academic essays are welcomed.

Institutionelle und Sozial-Ökonomie / Institutional and Socio-Economics

"In the "Institutional and Socio-Economics" book series, the economy is studied as a genuinely social system of heterogeneous agents in an institutional context. The series includes a broad range of different methodological approaches, theoretical perspectives and subjects of study. Interdependencies among agents in complex social systems can be studied using evolutionary economic models, as well as institutional economic and simulation studies. Hence, the focus is being laid on approaches that are more explorative than the standard equilibrium analysis; on approaches that allow for complexity; on approaches that consider development, history, institutions, and values. Thus, we may conclude that institutions are more than just devices for the reduction of transaction costs. From an institutionalist perspective, institutions are the common and collective solutions to social decision problems, particularly social dilemma problems, coordination problems, and collective-good problems. Such solutions require ‘recognized interdependence’ and learned coordination and cooperation, thus a learned culture of a long-run perspective – emerging as the result of a process of interactions. Institutions often are transitory only, part of the ongoing dynamics, adequately modeled possibly as an evolutionary process. Also, they may be instrumental solutions to a social decision problem at first and may degenerate into ceremonial power-and-status-based phenomena later, thus limiting the possibility of further innovation and development. In a genealogy of economics, the thematic and methodological spectrum of this book series would embrace the history of thought beginning with the classics including great names such as Adam Smith and Karl Marx but also the late classics who already have struggled with issues like complexity, process, historical time, and evolution. In newer times, the spectrum continues with Veblenian, Keynesian, and Post-Keynesian thinking; it would also include works in the traditions of original institutionalist economics, ecological economics, Neo-Schumpeterian thinking, evolutionary economics, and game theory. Social economics and social policy analysis, behavioral economics, complex modeling, system dynamics, and agent-based computational economics would be embraced as well. Such lists, however, can never be exhaustive. Last not least, institutional and socio-economics deals with the epistemology and substance of values, norms and ethics, value warrants of economic behavior as well as the normative foundations of economics. This series, thus, stands in the best traditions of plural economic research areas and pluralistic theoretical perspectives. It may be called ’heterodox’, but it shall always be cutting-edge and of high quality. Enjoy exploring the works of this book series. The series Sources and Studies in Music History from Antiquity to the Present treats a wide range of musicological subjects from antiquity to the present day. There are editions of unknown or forgotten musical sources, biographies of composers, monographs, collections of articles and lectures. Its intention is to promote the dialogue between historical, comparative, and interdisciplinary studies, including recent developments in musicology and musical theory. Die Reihe Quellen und Studien zur Musikgeschichte von der Antike bis in die Gegenwart beschäftigt sich mit einer großen Bandbreite von musikwissenschaftlichen Themen von der Antike bis in die neueste Zeit. Hier erscheinen Quelleneditionen unbekannter oder vergessener Musikwerke, Komponistenbiographien und Monographien sowie Schriften und Vorträge. Die Reihe nimmt aber auch epochenübergreifende und interdisziplinäre Entwicklungen zum Anlass für vergleichende Studien. The series Regensburg Studies in British and American Languages and Cultures was established in 1971 and publishes studies on the languages, literatures and cultures of North America, the British Isles, as well as the English-speaking regions of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Caribbean. Within a transhistorical, transnational and interdisciplinary conceptual framework, the monographs in this series have stressed different areas of focus in their engagement with textual, performative, visual, material and virtual forms of representation. Recent subjects of investigation have been, for instance, language variation and varieties of English as well as the representation and enactment of regional, (trans)national and global identities. Die Buchreihe Regensburger Arbeiten zur Anglistik und Amerikanistik besteht seit 1971 und publiziert Studien zu den Sprachen, Literaturen und Kulturen Nordamerikas, der britischen Inseln sowie der englischsprachigen Regionen Afrikas, Asiens, Ozeaniens und der Karibik. Mikrokosmos

Wolfgang Harms established the Mikrokosmos series in 1974 and was later joined by Peter Strohschneider as co-editor. In 2015, editorial responsibility was taken over by Frieder von Ammon and Michael Waltenberger. The monographs and anthologies published in this series focus on subjects in the field of German-speaking literature from the distant past right up to the present. Areas of contact with neighbouring literature, relations to other forms of art, and interrelationships with cultural contexts are also addressed. Particular focus lies on studies that analyse their subject matter in great depth, combined with extensive conceptual and methodical reflection, to produce advanced contributions to topics currently under discussion in the field of literature theory. Die Reihe Mikrokosmos wurde 1974 von Wolfgang Harms gegründet, später von ihm gemeinsam mit Peter Strohschneider herausgegeben. Seit 2015 liegt die Herausgeberschaft bei Frieder von Ammon und Michael Waltenberger. This series focuses on linguistic negotiations of belonging, covering processes of identity construction and group formation (groupness) in social, spatial and temporal terms. At the interface between linguistic, sociological, ethnographic and cultural sciences research, it seeks to depict different communities in their cultural and language practices, which can be implicit in routines of everyday encounters or subject to negotiations and adjustment. Bi- and plurilingual – as well as migratory contexts – are particularly suitable for inquiries regarding belonging. It is often an overt subject of debate within these communities, as the outcome determines the in- or exclusion of members. This series therefore offers a vital and transdisciplinary contribution to recent discussions on belonging. Book proposals are welcome and may be submitted to the editors. All publications will be peer reviewed. Die Reihe thematisiert sprachliche Aushandlungen von Zugehörigkeit in Interaktionen und Prozesse von Identitätskonstruktionen sowie soziale, räumliche und zeitliche Aspekte von Gruppenbildung.
