Academic and scholarly responses have built on the traditional and non-traditional analytical frameworks and promoted a multidimensional discourse on, for example, conflict management, peace and security systems, HIV/AIDS, democratic governance, and the implications of globalization. This series is designed to encourage innovative thinking on a broad range of development issues. Thus its remit extends to all fields of intellectual inquiry with the aim of highlighting the advantages of a synergistic interdisciplinary perspective on the challenges of and opportunities for development in the continent. Of particular interest are studies with a heavy empirical content which also have a bearing on policy debates and those that question theoretical orthodoxies while being grounded on concrete developmental concerns. Acta Germanica, the yearbook of the Association for German Studies in Southern Africa, presents the latest research findings in the field of German Language and Literature. It focuses mainly on current topics affecting (South) Africa in the fields of German literature, linguistics and culture, and on German as a foreign language. Bible and Theology in Africa

The 20th century made sub-Saharan Africa a Christian continent. This formidable church growth is reflected in a wide range of attempts at contextualizing Christian theology and biblical interpretation in Africa. At a grassroots level ordinary Christians express their faith and read the Bible in ways reflecting their daily situation; at an academic level, theologians and biblical scholars relate the historical traditions and sources of Christianity to the socio- and religio-cultural context of Africa. In response to this, the series Bible and Theology in Africa aims at making African theology and biblical interpretation its subject as well as object, as the concerns of African theologians and biblical interpreters will be voiced and critically analyzed. Both Africans and Western authors are encourgared to consider this series.

Die Reihe „Europa in Kontakt: Sprachen, Literatur und Kulturen in Bewegung“ publiziert Forschungsergebnisse der Fächer Germanistik, Romanistik und aus dem Bereich albanologischer Studien. Sie deckt das gesamte Spektrum der genannten Fachbereiche ab und umfasst Monographien und Sammelbände sowie Anthologien, Texteditionen zu einzelnen Autoren mit kritischen Aspekten in den Sprachen Deutsch, Englisch, Italienisch, Französisch, Albanisch sowie Spanisch. Die Reihe gibt einen Einblick in Fragen zu Kultur- und Sprachtransfer und Mehrsprachigkeitserfahrungen sowohl aus literaturwissenschaftlicher als auch aus einer sprach- und übersetzungswissenschaftlichen Perspektive in den genannten Sprachen. Sie vergleicht Sprache und Kultur und betrachtet das Gebiet der Übersetzungswissenschaft als spezielles Untersuchungsfeld. Der methodologische Fokus liegt auf der Rekonstruktion des Verarbeitungsprozesses im literarischen Werk, auf Problemen der Textanalyse bzw. des Textverständnisses und, nicht zuletzt, auf der Interferenz zwischen Sprache, Literatur und anderen künstlerischen und kulturellen Ausdrucksformen. Auf sprachlich- bzw. literarisch-komparatistischem Ansatz basierend soll gezeigt werden, wie die künstlerische Inszenierung oft erfolgreich aus einer imaginären Grammatik schöpft, die ihren klaren Ausdruck, ihre Beschaffenheit und Ursache in einer besonderen Verschmelzung der Perspektiven, der Zeichen und der Sprachen findet.

Still-existing gaps in the current knowledge on Africa are an opportunity for collective scientific efforts: if formerly stable academic boundaries can be transgressed, then these lacunas may provide a good chance to advance with new interdisciplinary designs. CEAUP (Centre of African Studies of the Porto University) is an interdisciplinary research centre working on African issues. This series allows the discussion of CEAUP’s efforts in a larger, international context. The studies to be included focus on subjects regarded as especially innovative and which may help our understanding of African current impasses: – Identity and group conflict – Patterns of change in production and labour relationships, notably forced labour – Access to natural resources, such as water, land and raw materials – State building and ‘civil society’ The series accepts monographs, collected papers and conference proceedings in English.
