MARÍA ISABEL CORBÍ SÁEZ

Some years have flown away since Simone de Beauvoir’s centenary birth celebrations took place all around the world in 2008. The whole lot of those academic activities to which we must add the ones that followed in the format of conferences or publications constitute precious examples of a universal tribute Simone de Beauvoir deserved. Alicante University has wished to join it with this collective volume readers have in their hands.

Simone de Beauvoir has enriched many fields of knowledge with her thinking, with her works, not forgetting the relevance and significance for our society of her engagements derived from moral and ethical commitment. Her unconditional passion for life and for action, her remarkable lucidity made her be aware of the need to take part in many human causes and brought her to fight radically, among many others, the stifling and alienating prejudices of a patriarchal society – which is still taking too much time to integrate definitely gender’s equity.
