The Importance of Mountain Tourism to the Economic Development of Prahova County

Abstract: The most equipped and developed ski domains from Romania are located in the Prahova and Brașov counties. The main factor that influenced the development of the ski resort in Prahove County is related to the proximity of several important towns: București, Brașov, Ploiești and Pitești, that have provided the resorts Azuga, Bușteni and Sinaia with a large and constant flux of tourists. Prahova mountain tourism is capable of generating economic growth and new jobs, while contributing to the economic and social development and integration of the area. In fact, the mountainous area under review remains the first tourist destination in Prahova county, which is also the main mountain area. Mountain tourism is facing major challenges that represents, at the same time, opportunities not to be missed. On the one hand, tourism in mountain resorts Sinaia, Busteni, Azuga must adapt to developments in society, influencing demand, and on the other hand, they must face the constraints of the current structure of the sector, of the character of specific economic and social context.
