On the Complexity of Zoosemic Transfers in English and Polish

Abstract: This paper is devoted to the discussion of some of the intricacies of zoosemic transfers in English and Polish. The outcomes of the research conducted emphasise not only the existence of a morphology-semantics interface detectable in the analysis of both English and Polish zoosemic transfers, but also the presence of a metaphor-metonymy interface in zoosemy. The contrastive analysis of English-Polish language material leads to a number of generalizations and conclusions drawn from the data targeted.

Key words: zoosemy, morphology, semantics, metaphor, metonymy
